Senior Software Engineer, Backend – Platform

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Design, develop, and enhance core infrastructure focused on reliability, performance, and security.

• Create and refine developer tools, CI/CD pipelines, and workflows.

• Apply security-by-design principles to protect systems and data.

• Act as a technical leader among teams, mentoring engineers and steering platform strategies.

• Collaborate with product and engineering leaders to balance speed, cost, and robustness.

• Manage systems, services, and tools that empower product teams to deliver quickly and securely.

• Engage in customer-facing projects where platform capabilities are central to the product.

• Establish best practices and guide initiatives across multiple functions.

• Develop and scale backend systems and infrastructure utilizing Python, Django, AWS, and Terraform.

• Shape technical direction, architectural standards, and engineering practices.

• Collaborate on internal tool development, infrastructure, and security matters.

• Contribute as needed in a fast-paced startup environment.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, or equivalent technical background.

• Over 8 years of practical experience in Infrastructure & Platform Engineering.

• Demonstrated history of scaling cloud-native systems.

• Proficient in Python 3.

• Strong expertise in AWS.

• Familiar with event-driven architectures (Kafka or similar technologies).

• Knowledgeable in relational databases (Postgres, DynamoDB, MySQL, SQL Server, or similar).

• Experience with IaC tools (Terraform, Spacelift, CloudFormation), observability, monitoring, and incident response.

• Proficient in containerization and orchestration technologies (Docker, Kubernetes, ECS).

• Proven success in enhancing Developer Experience through tools, pipelines, and automation.

• Experience optimizing monorepo developer workflows (Bazel, Buck, Pants).

• Understanding of compliance frameworks (SOC 2, ISO 27001, etc.) and their operationalization.

• Experience leading security initiatives.

• Background in mentoring engineers and influencing technical direction across teams.

• Experience in transportation systems or scientific/analytics applications is a plus.

• Familiarity with dbt and DuckDB is appreciated.
