Senior Software Engineer, Backend – Consumer Data Platform

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Strategically plan and prioritize projects by leveraging product, technical, and business objectives through data-informed decision-making.

• Develop and implement scalable backend systems, APIs, and data models to enhance communications, experimentation, and personalization.

• Collaborate with Product Managers, Data Scientists, and Analysts to formulate customer acquisition and engagement strategies.

• Establish and maintain engineering best practices to ensure secure, observable, and high-performing services.

• Provide mentorship and support to junior engineers.

• Create and track metrics, escalate issues as necessary, and assist with ongoing support and on-call responsibilities.

• Construct services that enhance customer acquisition, engagement, and the adoption of Affirm products.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 6 years of experience as a Software Engineer specializing in backend systems.

• Strong knowledge of distributed systems and service-oriented architecture.

• Demonstrated success in delivering complex backend systems in a production environment.

• Exceptional written and verbal communication abilities.

• Proficiency in asynchronous communication, including design documents, technical specifications, and project plans.

• Capability to work collaboratively across Product, Data Science, Analytics, and Design teams.

• Proficient in Python, Kotlin, or similar programming languages.

• Experience with AWS or other leading cloud service providers.

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent practical experience.

• Familiarity with experimentation platforms, such as A/B testing frameworks and feature flagging systems.

• Knowledge of event-driven architectures and stream processing tools like Kafka and Kinesis.

• Experience with large-scale personalization, recommendation, or messaging systems.

• Ability to support artifact operations and ensure availability through metrics, escalation, and on-call efforts.

• Candidates must reside in Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Prince Edward Island, or Saskatchewan.
