Senior Software Engineer – Backend

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Mexico.

📋 Description

• Design and develop high-availability backend services, APIs, and distributed systems for the payment aggregator and orchestrator.

• Provide technical leadership for initiatives within the squad, participating in architectural, scalability, performance, and security decisions.

• Build quality software by incorporating automated testing and observability into each delivery.

• Operate production systems with an end-to-end ownership mindset, identifying opportunities for simplification and automation.

• Collaborate with product teams and stakeholders, translating business needs into tangible technical solutions.

• Mentor junior engineers, raising the technical standard of the team.

• Integrate credit and debit card support into the payment orchestrator, which currently supports SPEI.

• Contribute to a unified domain layer for multiple rails and enhance the scalability of Monato's payment infrastructure.

⛳️ Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in software development within production environments.

• Strong experience in building backend systems, APIs, and microservices architectures.

• Knowledge of languages from the JVM ecosystem (Kotlin, Java, or similar).

• Proficiency in Kafka or other event-based messaging systems.

• Familiarity with relational databases, cloud infrastructure (AWS), automated testing, and CI/CD.

• Experience with distributed architectures or high-availability, low-latency transactional systems.

• Ability to work autonomously and take on significant responsibility within multidisciplinary teams.

• Experience in fintech, payments, banking, or regulated products, with knowledge of payment processing: authorization, capture, settlement, reconciliation, orchestration between rails, ISO 8583, PCI DSS, tokenization, and 3DS (nice to have).
