Senior Software Engineer, Backend

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Enhance your expertise in the healthcare claims and payments sector.

• Develop production-ready backend services while contributing to programming standards and team development.

• Provide mentorship and guidance to fellow developers.

• Act as the backend representative during cross-team planning and execution across functions.

• Participate in the development of new products involving complex in-browser applications.

• Ensure applications are designed to be extensible, scalable, and secure.

• Balance the implementation of customer-facing features with the resolution of technical debt.

• Design and implement applications that utilize ML techniques to process large datasets.

• Create systems that integrate effectively to deliver high-performing and reliable applications.

• Promote agentic engineering practices and support the team in their adoption.

• Establish the technical direction for backend development initiatives.

• Design and construct scalable, dependable web application systems in collaboration with AI coding agents.

• Oversee and evaluate AI-generated code while ensuring engineering excellence.

• Collaborate across functions, influence product strategy, and engage directly with customers.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 8 years of experience in backend programming; additional full-stack experience is highly preferred.

• Demonstrated experience in designing and delivering customer-facing web application products.

• Significant experience with Java or Scala; proficiency in Rust is a plus.

• Experience in designing, building, and managing distributed systems using cloud services at scale.

• Ability to produce Technical Design Documents that clearly translate ambiguous product intentions into specific backend designs.

• A product- and user-focused mindset.

• Strong skills in cross-functional collaboration.

• Practical experience with agentic engineering tools and workflows in a real-world production environment.

• Capability to read, comprehend, and enhance complex code, maintaining code quality.

• Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.

• Comfort with complexity and a curiosity to chart the way forward.

• BS or MS in Computer Science, or equivalent professional experience.

• Leadership in Rust best practices is a desirable addition.

• Work authorization/location requirement: ability to work from anywhere in the US.
