Senior Software Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Washington.

📋 Description

• Develop and manage Upbound Spaces in operational settings within multi-tenant SaaS frameworks.

• Contribute to open-source initiatives, including Crossplane.

• Implement features requested by customers and provide new functionalities.

• Analyze and resolve intricate issues in customer environments, including scenarios with multiple control planes, reconciliation challenges, and performance bottlenecks.

• Produce design documentation and conduct post-incident analyses.

• Assist in the complete lifecycle of scalable cloud solutions, from initial discovery and architecture to deployment and operational support.

• Write and maintain Go code that interacts with the Kubernetes API, including operators, controllers, and add-ons.

• Deploy, manage, and troubleshoot Kubernetes services utilizing metrics, logs, and traces.

• Create operational tools for debugging environments, assessing control-plane health, and automating incident responses.

• Write documentation, user manuals, runbooks, and blog articles.

• Facilitate releases for self-hosted distributions of Spaces.

• Engage in the on-call rotation for Upbound Cloud.

⛳️ Requirements

• Proven experience in operating production cloud services at scale, encompassing monitoring, alerting, incident response, post-mortems, and ongoing enhancement of service reliability.

• Strong troubleshooting capabilities across distributed systems.

• Familiarity with observability tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry, and distributed tracing.

• Experience in developing and managing controllers that interact with the Kubernetes API server.

• Proficient in diagnosing reconciliation loops, managing API rate limits, and enhancing controller performance.

• Comfortable engaging directly with customers to comprehend, reproduce, and address complex technical challenges.

• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

• Ability to take charge of resolving issues during incidents that impact customer workloads.
