Senior Software Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California, +1 more state.

📋 Description

• Design and manage Upbound Spaces in live production within multi-tenant SaaS settings.

• Contribute to Upbound's open-source initiatives, including Crossplane.

• Develop features requested by customers and introduce new capabilities.

• Analyze and resolve intricate issues within customer environments, such as multi-control-plane configurations, reconciliation challenges, and performance limitations.

• Produce design documents and conduct post-incident evaluations that facilitate system enhancements.

• Oversee the entire lifecycle of scalable and reliable cloud services, from initial discovery and architecture to deployment and ongoing operational support.

• Write and uphold Go code that interacts with the Kubernetes API, including operators, controllers, and add-ons.

• Deploy, manage, and troubleshoot Kubernetes services using metrics, logs, and traces.

• Develop operational tools for diagnosing customer environments, assessing control-plane health, and automating incident responses.

• Create documentation, user manuals, runbooks, and blog articles.

• Assist with releases for self-hosted Spaces distributions and troubleshoot issues related to customer-managed deployments.

• Engage in on-call rotation for Upbound Cloud and address incidents as they arise.

⛳️ Requirements

• Proven experience in managing production cloud services at scale, encompassing monitoring, alerting, incident response, post-mortems, and ongoing service reliability enhancements.

• Excellent debugging capabilities within distributed systems.

• Familiarity with observability tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry, and distributed tracing.

• Experience in building and managing controllers that interface with the Kubernetes API server.

• Proficient in troubleshooting reconciliation loops, managing API rate limits, and optimizing controller efficiency.

• Comfortable collaborating directly with customers to understand, replicate, and solve complex technical challenges.

• Strong communication and teamwork abilities.

• Willingness to participate in an on-call rotation.

• Preference for candidates located in the San Francisco Bay Area or Seattle market.
