This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Maryland.
• Act as the primary technical Subject Matter Expert (SME) across frontend, backend, and cloud/DevOps sectors.
• Define architectural strategies, engineering standards, and technical objectives that align with project and mission goals.
• Make significant technical decisions and address complex, unclear implementation challenges.
• Create, develop, and sustain responsive React frontends with a focus on usability, performance, and accessibility.
• Build secure, scalable backend services and APIs using Python with FastAPI and/or Django.
• Produce clean, testable, and maintainable code through code reviews, automated testing, and comprehensive technical documentation.
• Architect, provision, and manage AWS infrastructure utilizing infrastructure-as-code methods.
• Containerize applications with Docker and deploy, scale, and manage workloads on Kubernetes.
• Design and oversee CI/CD pipelines, observability/monitoring, and automated deployment workflows.
• Set goals, develop roadmaps, and create delivery plans.
• Estimate effort levels and manage task-level financial and schedule performance, including monitoring burn against contract funding.
• Define engineering methodologies, tools, and processes, adapting them to mission and program requirements.
• Direct and oversee engineering activities for the client, ensuring that technical requirements are fulfilled.
• Engage with senior management and program stakeholders; negotiate scope, priorities, trade-offs, and delivery commitments.
• Convert mission and operational needs into a technical strategy, communicating progress, risks, and options to leadership.
• Offer technical leadership and mentorship.
• Participate in staffing decisions, resource planning, and team composition.
• May supervise, guide, and review the work of other engineers.
• Advocate for secure-by-design and secure development practices in a regulated environment that handles Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI).
• Ensure that software and infrastructure comply with DoD/IC security standards and organizational compliance requirements.
• Expert-level knowledge in React, modern JavaScript/TypeScript, Python backend development using FastAPI and/or Django, AWS, Docker, and Kubernetes.
• Demonstrated success in leading significant software development or modernization projects from technical planning to delivery and operation.
• Experience in directing technical activities and engaging directly with senior client stakeholders, including negotiating scope, priorities, and technical direction.
• Familiarity with level-of-effort estimation, resource/staffing planning, and managing task-level delivery.
• Strong foundation in secure software development and cloud security practices.
• U.S. citizenship.
• Current U.S. security clearance or eligibility to obtain one at the level required by the program.
• Capability to meet and maintain clearance eligibility requirements throughout employment.
• Preferred: Experience in AWS GovCloud and/or FedRAMP or DoD Impact Level authorized environments.
• Preferred: Knowledge of infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform and Ansible, along with GitOps-style deployment workflows.
• Preferred: Previous software delivery experience on DoD or Intelligence Community programs.
• Preferred: Understanding of CMMC, NIST 800-171/800-53, or similar compliance frameworks.
• Preferred: Relevant certifications like AWS Solutions Architect/DevOps, Certified Kubernetes Administrator, Security+, or equivalent DoD 8570/8140 baseline certifications.
