Senior Software Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Take ownership of problem framing, sequencing, trade-offs, and system design in collaboration with Product and Design.

• Establish data models, API contracts, and identify potential failure modes.

• Break down tasks and create specifications for AI agents to implement.

• Directly troubleshoot or resolve complex implementation issues when necessary.

• Determine testing coverage and levels, oversee AI-generated tests, and ensure the quality of tests.

• Integrate security, reliability, and observability into systems from the outset.

• Rigorously evaluate all implementations, regardless of who authored them.

• Make decisions regarding deployments and manage responses to on-call incidents.

• Apply insights gained from incidents to enhance production systems.

• Mentor engineers on how to specify, delegate, and validate work utilizing AI.

• Engage in the complete software lifecycle, from planning and design to coding, testing, reviewing, and production.

⛳️ Requirements

• Extensive server-side development experience in a contemporary programming language such as Java, Python, C#, Kotlin, or Go.

• A minimum of 5 years of full-stack development experience is required.

• Proficiency in REST contracts, versioning, OAuth2/OIDC, schema design, and SQL.

• Production experience with asynchronous and event-driven systems, including Kafka or similar technologies, as well as idempotency.

• Experience in building and managing production systems at scale on AWS or Azure.

• Familiarity with containers, Kubernetes or serverless architectures, infrastructure as code, and CI/CD pipelines.

• Experience with on-call production responsibilities.

• Ability to define and advocate for unit, integration, and contract testing strategies.

• Responsibility for reliability and security, including SLOs, incident leadership, OWASP compliance, and threat modeling.

• Experience with regulated data such as PHI/HIPAA or equivalent.

• Practical experience with agentic AI as a primary development interface.

• Bonus: Experience in LLM application engineering, including RAG, retrieval quality, evaluations, and LLM observability.

• Bonus: Experience with modern TypeScript frontend development using a design system.
