Senior Software Engineer, Applied AI

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Develop and enhance LLM-driven functionalities on AWS Bedrock and associated models.

• Create document OCR and extraction capabilities for clinical and claims documentation.

• Construct summarization and decision support tools for clinical assessments.

• Develop Knowledge Bases for efficient retrieval of plan and policy documents.

• Automate workflows for internal teams to increase productivity.

• Establish and sustain evaluations for released AI features.

• Address production AI issues, such as structured output, failure modes, cost, latency, and deterministic alternatives.

• Utilize Claude Code and Kiro as primary agentic coding tools and validate their outputs.

• Design, develop, test, and deploy features in the Python/FastAPI back end, as well as the Jinja2/Tailwind/Alpine.js front end.

• Collaborate on eligibility, accumulator, and claim-data integrations with carriers and pharmacies.

• Implement testing and linting gates, treating continuous integration as part of the definition of done.

• Prioritize PHI handling as a critical design consideration.

• Compose clear specifications, prompts, and design documentation.

• Initially collaborate with the clinical team, followed by engagement with other business areas.

• Report to the Head of Engineering and liaise directly with business stakeholders.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 7 years of experience in building production software, with genuine ownership of systems relied upon by others.

• Proficient in Python with production experience in FastAPI (or a similar asynchronous framework).

• Strong SQL skills in MySQL or Postgres.

• Familiar with AWS services.

• Comfortable working with a server-rendered front end (Jinja2, Tailwind, Alpine.js, or htmx).

• Proficient in Linux for development and able to work from a Windows workstation using remote desktop in a secure environment.

• Regularly utilize AI coding tools in practical applications, with a clear understanding of their strengths and limitations.

• Experience shipping at least one LLM-powered feature to real users, including evaluation methods and lessons learned from any issues encountered.

• Practical knowledge of prompt and context engineering, retrieval, embeddings, and structured output.

• Familiarity with healthcare data exchange standards and file-based integrations, including NCPDP D.0, X12 270/271, SFTP, fixed-width and delimited formats, and reconciliation.

• A direct communicator who articulates trade-offs clearly and seeks clarification when necessary.

• Candidates must currently have authorization to work in the United States on a full-time basis without the need for employer support, visa transfer assistance, DSO documentation, or sponsorship, now or in the future.
