Senior Software Engineer, AI

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Costa Rica.

📋 Description

• Create and implement high-performance, low-latency APIs and microservices that support vehicle history, VIN intelligence, and transaction systems.

• Develop and expand Java/Spring Boot services within a cloud-native AWS environment designed for high-throughput, real-time workloads.

• Design and execute event-driven systems utilizing Kafka/SQS for asynchronous processing and data pipelines.

• Lead the development of complex features, platform improvements, and proof-of-concept projects.

• Shape decisions regarding system architecture, scalability, and reliability.

• Establish and enhance CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, observability, logging, tracing, and performance optimization.

• Partner with product, data, and partner teams to deliver mission-critical integrations and APIs.

• Manage the complete software development lifecycle: design, build, deploy, and operate.

• Guide engineers through mentorship and provide input via code reviews and technical leadership.

• Utilize AI-assisted development tools and create agent-driven workflows.

• Develop or enhance intelligent features leveraging AI models and APIs.

• Create tool-integrated agent workflows that involve prompt design, orchestration, and API-based task execution.

• Assess and implement AI-generated outputs for quality, security, and compliance.

• Optimize AI-driven solutions for latency, cost, reliability, and observability.

• Implement embeddings, fine-tuning, and dataset preparation for business applications.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.

• Over 10 years of experience in developing large-scale, distributed, high-volume transactional systems, or equivalent experience.

• In-depth knowledge of Java, Spring Boot, microservices architecture, and REST API design.

• Practical experience with AWS across compute, storage, containers, networking, security, and monitoring.

• Familiarity with event-driven architectures such as Kafka, SQS, or ActiveMQ.

• Extensive experience with observability tools like Splunk, Dynatrace, or Datadog.

• Front-end development skills in React, JavaScript, and HTML/CSS; full-stack capability is preferred.

• Experience with PostgreSQL or DB2, including database performance optimization.

• Knowledge of Agile methodologies, SDLC, and contemporary engineering best practices.

• Proficiency with Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform or CloudFormation.

• Required experience with GitHub Copilot, Codex, Cursor, Claude Code, AI-assisted workflows, agent-driven capabilities, AI models and APIs, prompt design, orchestration, and API-based task execution.

• Foundational understanding of embeddings, fine-tuning, and dataset preparation.
