Senior Software Architect, Browser Extension Platform

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California, +1 more state.

📋 Description

• Define and steer the technical architecture and long-term vision of Keeper’s browser extension platform.

• Lead the architectural design for intricate browser-based features, shared services, and cross-platform functionalities.

• Create scalable solutions utilizing JavaScript, TypeScript, and contemporary web application technologies.

• Direct architecture across Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Safari, and other supported browser environments.

• Establish protocols for secure communication among browser extension components, web applications, backend services, and native integrations.

• Make technical decisions regarding extension lifecycle, background services, content scripts, messaging, storage, and browser APIs.

• Ensure that architectural choices adhere to Keeper’s zero-knowledge and zero-trust security principles.

• Identify and resolve performance, memory, reliability, and scalability issues across various browser environments.

• Guide migration and modernization efforts as the standards for browser extensions and platform capabilities progress.

• Collaborate with Product and UX teams to convert complex product requirements into scalable technical designs.

• Work alongside Security teams on threat modeling, secure design, and the remediation of security-sensitive browser functionality.

• Lead architecture and design reviews, as well as establish technical standards across the Browser Extension engineering team.

• Mentor senior engineers to enhance engineering quality, architectural discipline, and technical decision-making within the team.

• Collaborate closely with adjacent Vault, Desktop, Mobile, and backend teams where functionality or architecture intersects.

• Utilize AI-assisted development tools such as Claude, ChatGPT, GitHub Copilot, or similar platforms to enhance architecture research, prototyping, debugging, code analysis, documentation, and engineering efficiency.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 10 years of professional software engineering experience with comprehensive full-stack development skills encompassing databases, backend services, APIs, infrastructure, and modern user interfaces.

• Proven experience in 0-to-1 architecture, designing and delivering complex software systems from initial concept to production.

• Strong understanding of software architecture and object-oriented design patterns, including common Gang of Four design patterns.

• In-depth knowledge of performance engineering, including profiling, load testing, bottleneck analysis, and real-time debugging across the entire application stack.

• Experience in designing highly available, scalable systems, with the ability to evaluate trade-offs between centralized and decentralized architectures.

• Strong grasp of distributed systems, microservices, serverless architectures, and event-driven application design.

• Familiarity with cloud-native technologies and platforms, including AWS, Lambda, Docker, and Kubernetes.

• Comprehensive understanding of database architecture and data modeling across transactional systems, sharded or horizontally scaled databases, and analytical or warehouse platforms.

• Experience in designing secure authentication, authorization, and identity architectures, including IAM, CIEM, and least-privilege access concepts.

• Strong knowledge of web and application security concepts, including CORS, OWASP guidance, and secure software development practices.

• Experience with static analysis, code quality, or application security tools such as SonarQube, Checkmarx, or similar platforms.

• Strong understanding of modern software development methodologies, CI/CD practices, automated testing, and release engineering.

• Proven ability to make informed architectural trade-offs concerning performance, security, scalability, reliability, maintainability, and delivery speed.

• Capability to troubleshoot complex issues across database, backend, infrastructure, network, and UI layers.

• Demonstrated ability to lead architectural discussions, influence technical direction, and mentor senior engineers without relying on formal people-management authority.

• Willingness to employ AI-assisted tools such as Claude, ChatGPT, GitHub Copilot, or similar platforms for supporting architecture research, prototyping, debugging, code analysis, and technical documentation.

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
