Senior Site Reliability Engineer, Consumer Apps

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Illinois, +1 more state.

📋 Description

• Develop and sustain the infrastructure that supports all company systems and operational tools.

• Identify and eliminate manual tasks through automation.

• Utilize AI agents for writing, testing, and deploying infrastructure code.

• Design, enhance, and maintain internal agentic tools and harnesses.

• Create Terraform modules for infrastructure deployment via GitLab pipelines.

• Develop Helm charts for deploying services and jobs within Kubernetes.

• Establish metrics, network policies, and routing rules for the Istio service mesh.

• Oversee and maintain GCP BigQuery, Spanner, and CloudSQL databases.

• Transfer metrics to Google-managed Prometheus and create Grafana dashboards and alerts.

• Experiment with GCP offerings, third-party vendors, AI tools, and open-source projects to automate and secure operations.

• Collaborate with engineering leads to instrument and monitor essential functionalities.

• Engage in architecture design and capacity planning activities.

• Build, sustain, and enhance the CI/CD pipeline.

• Work closely with nearly all engineering teams to boost system efficiency and scalability.

⛳️ Requirements

• Minimum of 6 years of experience in building and maintaining large-scale cloud-native infrastructure (AWS and/or GCP).

• Proven ability to guide AI coding agents (e.g., Claude Code, Cursor, or similar) to construct, operate, and troubleshoot real infrastructure.

• Strong and seasoned judgment regarding the verification of AI agents' outputs.

• Demonstrated success in replacing manual operations with effective automation.

• Proficiency in Docker, Kubernetes, and Istio or comparable service mesh technologies.

• Familiarity with SQL database technologies including MySQL, Google BigQuery, and Google Spanner.

• Experience with stream technologies such as Kafka and Amazon Kinesis.

• Knowledge of pub/sub technologies like AWS SNS and Google Pub/Sub.

• Background in serverless computing technologies such as AWS Lambda and Google Cloud Functions/Google Cloud Run.

• Proficient with infrastructure-as-code tools, particularly Terraform.

• Experienced with observability tools such as Datadog, Prometheus, and Grafana.

• Solid foundation in computer science and software engineering principles.

• Familiarity with SOC2 and PCI Compliance processes and requirements.

• Enthusiasm for learning and sharing knowledge in a dynamic, collaborative environment.

• Strong motivation to automate processes.

• Ability to give and receive constructive feedback.

• Willingness to experiment with and rigorously test new technologies.
