This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Tennessee.
• Oversee a varied and intricate caseload of Short Term Disability claims from the initial intake phase to resolution.
• Make prompt, equitable, and precise decisions in line with policy guidelines.
• Work in partnership with clinical and vocational teams to formulate return-to-work plans and assess benefit eligibility and durations.
• Act as a subject matter expert on Short Term Disability claim practices.
• Provide consultations on best practices and aid in the development of internal procedures, workflows, and system requirements.
• Utilize knowledge of disability contract provisions, exclusions, riders, waivers, and regulatory/statutory obligations.
• Accurately document decisions and interactions while communicating effectively with claimants, employers, and internal stakeholders.
• Mentor and facilitate the onboarding process for new team members.
• Collaborate with Compliance, Legal, Intake/Admin, Clinical and Vocational Services, and other business units.
• Recognize process gaps and contribute to ongoing improvement and enterprise initiatives.
• Adjust to shifting priorities, business needs, and regulatory changes.
• Uphold confidentiality, professionalism, and integrity in all claim-related activities.
• At least 3 years of experience managing Short Term Disability claims.
• In-depth knowledge of Short Term Disability claim adjudication and pertinent federal/state regulations, including FMLA, ERISA, HIPAA, and ADA.
• Experience collaborating with clinical/vocational professionals to enhance return-to-work efforts and facilitate complex decision-making.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Proficient problem-solving and analytical abilities.
• Capability to juggle competing priorities effectively.
• Ability to mentor colleagues and foster a collaborative team environment.
• Familiarity with claims administration software and workflow/documentation tools.
• Capacity to work independently and make sound judgments.
• Commitment to ongoing learning and enhancement.
• Excellent time management skills and ability to excel in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
• Experience in supporting cross-functional or enterprise initiatives and managing change efforts.
• A college degree or equivalent experience is preferred.
• Background in Long Term Disability and/or absence management is advantageous.
