Senior Scientist – Human Physiology Systems

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Collaborate with the ARPA-H Program Manager and team to advance research initiatives.

• Assist in the development, funding, and management of R&D programs that align with ARPA-H’s mission.

• Provide both technical and strategic support for programs related to tissue and organoid manufacturing, tissue preservation, ex vivo organ perfusion and diagnostics, as well as translational technologies.

• Evaluate technologies based on clinical and operational realities, including donor tissue and organ recovery, preservation logistics, perfusion-enabled assessment/intervention, and transplant-center workflow.

• Conduct landscape analyses and technical diligence on emerging capabilities, vendors, performers, and scientific trends.

• Offer advice on scientific plausibility, translational feasibility, manufacturability, and adoption potential.

• Assess innovations throughout the transplant ecosystem, including organ procurement organizations, transplant centers, federal regulators, and stakeholders.

• Review technical proposals, performer submissions, milestones, deliverables, and program risks.

• Provide feedback, organize reviewer comments, and draft recommendations, project summaries, and presentation materials.

• Identify subject-matter experts, potential performers, test/evaluation partners, and transition stakeholders.

• Assist with program management, technical meetings, site visits, performer progress tracking, schedule-risk identification, and briefing materials.

• Travel within CONUS as required to support the Program Manager and program.

⛳️ Requirements

• Must be a US Citizen or Permanent Resident.

• Advanced degree in a relevant field, such as a PhD in physiology, systems biology, bioengineering, tissue engineering, regenerative medicine, or a related discipline, or an MD with substantial experience in transplantation, organ preservation, transplant surgery, transplant medicine, or a closely related field.

• Proven experience in synthesizing complex scientific information into concise written and visual products for decision support.

• Demonstrated subject-matter expertise in organ preservation, ex vivo organ perfusion and diagnostics, transplant biology, or regenerative medicine and translational bioengineering.

• Ability to critically assess technical data, experimental plans, and development pathways.

• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary teams.

• Experience supporting complex R&D efforts involving academic, clinical, and/or industrial stakeholders.

• Must be able to obtain a federal government Public Trust clearance.

• Some CONUS travel is expected (10 to 20 percent).
