This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Lead the technical exploration at enterprise distribution centers on-site.
• Establish baselines for equipment and controls in automation cells, which include robot models, controllers and firmware, I/O maps, safety architecture, cameras, sensors, cycle times, throughput, and physical constraints.
• Design, construct, and commission control and motion logic for industrial palletizing and sortation cells.
• Implement motion sequencing, pick and place operations, stacking and pallet-pattern logic, singulation, and recovery from partial or failed cycles.
• Take responsibility for installed and operational systems.
• Own the functional safety process from start to finish, encompassing risk assessment, safeguarding, emergency stops, interlocks, safe speeds and separations, as well as customer documentation.
• Develop command and telemetry interfaces between PackageX, robot controllers, PLCs, fleet managers, conveyors, and sortation systems.
• Utilize ROS 2, vendor SDKs, controller APIs, HTTPS/REST, MQTT, OPC UA, and industrial fieldbus as needed.
• Transform vision-model classification and inspection outputs into safe, prompt machine actions.
• Design handling processes for model uncertainty, incorrect predictions, dropped links, partial task completion, and discrepancies between reported and actual states.
• Create operator views for robot-driven tasks and human exception management.
• Generate documentation, test coverage, and internal training materials.
• Represent PackageX in technical discussions with customers and collaborate with distribution directors, industrial engineers, IT leadership, plant engineers, maintenance technicians, and EHS teams.
• Develop reusable robotics capabilities for PackageX while identifying specific cell requirements.
• Experience in production programming and commissioning of industrial robotic arms, including Yaskawa Motoman, Fanuc, ABB, KUKA, or Universal Robots.
• Proficiency in robot motion concepts, encompassing kinematics, frames, tool center points, path planning, singularities, payload and reach limits, collision avoidance, and palletizing/depalletizing pattern logic.
• Hands-on experience with teach pendants in a production environment.
• Knowledge of functional safety standards, including ISO 10218 and ISO/TS 15066 where applicable, along with risk assessment, safety-rated monitored stops, category and performance-level reasoning, and safety PLCs.
• Experience with controls integration involving PLCs, industrial protocols, sensors, conveyors, sortation, and working-cell electrical systems.
• Production experience with ROS or ROS 2.
• Strong programming skills in Python and C++ for robotics applications.
• Experience in production services using TypeScript, Node, Go, or Python, particularly with event-driven integration.
• Familiarity with REST, gRPC, MQTT, and WebSockets.
• Ability to create a functional operator UI using React or similar technologies.
• Capacity to reason about computer vision latency, confidence thresholds, false positives, and uncertainties related to machine movement.
• Proven experience in delivering services on-site for enterprise customers.
• Flexibility to work around customer shift schedules.
• Ability to document work for engineers and executives effectively.
• Skill in assessing scope feasibility and communicating constraints with supporting evidence.
• Capability to differentiate between reusable robotics platform features and custom cell implementations.
• Ability to evaluate technical decisions against commercial limitations.
• Contract term of three months.
