This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Deliver strategic leadership and accountability for loss prevention strategies and risk mitigation initiatives across designated facilities and service lines.
• Maintain a significant presence within assigned areas and collaborate with Senior Leadership on matters related to insurance, claims management, loss prevention, adverse events, and operational risk exposures.
• Work in partnership with Human Resources, Legal, Quality, Compliance, and Patient Safety stakeholders to identify, prioritize, and mitigate risk exposures effectively.
• Provide cross-coverage support for the Risk Director or other team members during their absences or temporary reassignments.
• Act as a subject matter expert and contribute to system-wide initiatives, committees, networks, task forces, and projects.
• Lead prompt initial event responses, assess facts and risks, and decide on subsequent actions.
• Serve as the primary point of contact for complex or high-risk event-related issues.
• Conduct comprehensive investigations with clinical, legal, and operational stakeholders; synthesize findings, perform risk assessments, and escalate significant issues as necessary.
• Provide risk guidance during grievance committees and enhance response communications when liability exposure is present.
• Drive the Apology & Disclosure strategy and Just-In-Time training, which includes the development of materials and coordination of logistics.
• Mentor clinicians and leaders on effective communication following adverse or unanticipated outcomes.
• Identify cases for Early Liability Review and assist in resolution strategies and outcomes.
• Collaborate with claims management on reporting and managing potentially compensable events.
• Partner with outside counsel for interviews, fact development, and case preparation.
• Oversee administrative claims regarding professional licensure and board investigations.
• Provide risk guidance during surveys and investigations conducted by CMS, Joint Commission, and the Department of Health.
• Analyze claims, incident data, and post-loss outcomes to detect trends, root causes, and emerging risks.
• Monitor risk mitigation action plans to ensure appropriate follow-up and escalation.
• Design and execute loss prevention and risk reduction strategies alongside operational leadership.
• Convert data insights, claim trends, and regulatory changes into initiatives at both facility and system levels.
• Provide education on risk management, claims, and insurance principles.
• CPHRM certification within 1 year of hire (Required).
• Bachelor’s Degree in Healthcare, Business, Legal, or a related field (Required).
• A minimum of 5 years in Healthcare Risk Management, Quality, or Safety (Required).
• Proven understanding of Risk Management principles.
• Exceptional written and oral communication and presentation skills.
• Highly organized, capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously, and able to swiftly adjust work focus.
• Comprehensive understanding of healthcare operations and medicine.
• Collaborative approach and responsive to associates across all levels.
• Healthcare, Law, or Insurance Licensure (Preferred).
• Master’s Degree in Healthcare, Business, Legal, Insurance, or a related field (Preferred).
• Adaptable and flexible to change (Preferred).
• Detail-oriented (Preferred).
• In-depth understanding of Claims/Litigation (Preferred).
• Basic knowledge of Insurance related to healthcare operations/employees (Preferred).
• Must be able to work and reside within the Continental US due to company VPN access requirements.
