Senior Relay Field Technician

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Conduct testing and routine maintenance on Transmission and Distribution substation power equipment.

• Evaluate electro-mechanical, solid-state, and microprocessor relays.

• Test pilot channel equipment, which includes power line carriers, pilot wires, transfer trips, fiber optics, CVTs, line tuners, and line traps.

• Assess controls and communication equipment.

• Read and accurately interpret substation drawings, such as single-line diagrams, AC and DC schematics, panel wiring diagrams, and panel layout drawings.

• Assist in drafting procedures and/or test plans for maintenance and construction tasks.

• Read and confirm voltage and current inputs to relays.

• Verify local and SCADA metering, trips, alarms, and function switches.

• Calibrate relays.

• Execute routine troubleshooting and repairs of substation relaying and control equipment.

• Commission new substations, power equipment, relays, pilot channel equipment, controls, and communications gear.

• Plan, schedule, and carry out test activities efficiently and within deadlines, ensuring no service interruptions.

• Provide technical project support to Field Service personnel.

⛳️ Requirements

• At least 5 years of field experience in commissioning, panel and equipment checks, relay calibration, and testing and repairing substation relays and control systems.

• Preferred experience in substation design, construction, commissioning, and SCADA/Fault Data/SER/Integration-Automation equipment installation and testing.

• Knowledge of three-phase power systems, power system protection & control schemes, test equipment, and test equipment software.

• Proficiency in the use of test equipment and tools/wiring.

• Ability to interpret wiring and elementary diagrams.

• Basic testing skills to carry out the outlined responsibilities.

• Basic computer skills.

• Ability to quickly learn and implement test procedures for various types of substation equipment.

• Strong communication skills to engage effectively with diverse groups, adapting communication style for the audience and situation.

• Ability to understand and apply client-specific switching procedures and safety protocols.

• Capability to reference and complete tasks as outlined in relevant specifications.

• Proficiency in English, including reading and writing abilities.

• Capacity to perform regular fieldwork both indoors and outdoors.

• Strong interpersonal, communication, business acumen, and management skills.

• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and Outlook).

• Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
