PDF Annotation, Transcription Expert – Japanese

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Japan, +3 more countries.

📋 Description

• Review and verify assigned Japanese PDF annotation tasks.

• Ensure that pages are in Japanese, clear, contain authentic content, and do not include personal information.

• Identify and delineate every significant page region.

• Classify component types and establish reading-order indexes.

• Connect regions to their corresponding figures or tables.

• Accurately transcribe all text in Japanese script, including handwritten materials.

• Mark illegible source regions for further attention.

• Document language, type, source, page dimensions, as well as flags for tables, formulas, and handwriting.

• Evaluate colleagues' work thoroughly as a seasoned annotator.

• Generate human-written training data for document AI models.

⛳️ Requirements

• Must be a native Japanese speaker with complete proficiency in kanji, hiragana, katakana, furigana, and variant character forms.

• Relevant professional experience in interpretation, journalism, transcription, translation, editorial tasks, or similar document-heavy roles.

• Exceptional character-level accuracy and meticulous attention to detail.

• Ability to consistently apply a taxonomy across numerous pages.

• Comfortable handling vertical text, multi-column newspapers, exam papers, and handwritten forms.

• Experience in Japanese-language transcription.

• Familiarity with Japanese documents, including handwriting, complex layouts, tables, diagrams, and mixed-script pages.

• H1-B or STEM OPT candidates are not eligible.

• Must operate as an independent contractor.
