
Senior Python Engineer, Document App – Content Engineering Team

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Germany, +1 more country.
• Design and enhance backend systems that facilitate real-time collaborative document editing for tens of thousands of simultaneous users.
• Take ownership of the content model and data persistence layer, encompassing schema design, migrations, compatibility, and long-term sustainability.
• Develop and manage event-driven pipelines utilizing Kafka and NATS.
• Handle substantial volumes of frontend interactions and ensure consistent document states across various services.
• Contribute to the reliability, observability, and operational excellence of Python microservices.
• Deliver product features from backend architecture through to production monitoring.
• Support the development of AI-driven capabilities, including agentic document workflows.
• Collaborate with the Content engineering team on document editing, persistence, and infrastructure for real-time collaboration.
• Over 5 years of experience in Python development within production environments.
• Extensive experience with relational databases, SQL, schema design, migrations, and query optimization.
• Practical experience with message queues and event-driven architectures, such as Kafka, NATS, RabbitMQ, or equivalent.
• Profound understanding of AsyncIO and concurrent systems.
• Experience in building and managing microservice architectures at scale.
• Ability to analyze distributed systems, including aspects of consistency, ordering, and failure modes.
• Knowledge of the complete development lifecycle from requirements gathering to deployment and production monitoring.
• Regular use of AI tools in daily tasks and a critical assessment of their outputs.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
• Experience with AI agents, LLM-powered workflows, or agentic systems is a plus.
