Senior Python Developer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Drive the ongoing enhancement of Optica Security, OSC EdgeTech’s DISA APL-listed STIG compliance and CORA readiness platform.

• Design, develop, test, and optimize Python-based scanning capabilities for extensive, segmented, and federated network environments, including restricted government settings.

• Create and implement production AI capabilities utilizing local/self-hosted models and cloud-based AI services.

• Develop and operationalize AI-assisted ingestion and analysis of new and updated DISA STIGs.

• Organize STIG requirements for application in Optica and identify, manage, and validate defined organizational parameters.

• Automate workflows for document ingestion, structured data extraction, classification, transformation, validation, exception handling, and human-in-the-loop review processes.

• Integrate and manage local/self-hosted models for disconnected or air-gapped environments alongside cloud model APIs and managed AI platforms.

• Construct maintainable abstractions for model selection and orchestration patterns.

• Assist in dataset preparation, model selection, evaluation, prompt and retrieval design, fine-tuning or other adaptations, inference optimization, validation, and production monitoring.

• Broaden cybersecurity content coverage to include installed applications, databases, application servers, middleware, and additional software layers.

• Plan and execute the development process through deployment, stabilization, and resolution of customer feedback.

• Communicate status updates, risks, technical trade-offs, and dependencies to product leadership.

• Contribute to architecture, code reviews, automated testing, documentation, observability, secure development practices, and production support.

• Utilize independent technical judgment to inform architecture and prioritization decisions.

• Mentor developers and elevate engineering standards.

• Collaborate with architecture, dashboard, cybersecurity content, product, and customer-facing teams.

• Perform additional duties as assigned and appropriate.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, software engineering, data science, AI/ML, or a related field; relevant professional experience may be considered in place of a degree.

• Eight or more years of professional experience in Python software development, with at least five years of hands-on Python programming.

• Experience in developing and deploying software within DoD or other federal operating environments, including restricted, air-gapped, disconnected, or accreditation-controlled networks.

• Proficiency in designing and delivering production-quality Python software.

• Experience in creating, developing, and deploying AI-enabled software in production, covering architecture, integration, testing, validation, and operations.

• Familiarity with integrating local and self-hosted AI or LLM models alongside cloud-based AI services or model APIs.

• Knowledge of AI/ML techniques, including data preparation, model training, validation, evaluation, inference, model selection, and model adaptation.

• Experience in automating complex business, engineering, or analytical workflows with AI that demonstrates measurable operational impact.

• Background in developing scanning, agent-based, distributed data-collection, or similar systems, emphasizing performance, reliability, concurrency, and large-scale deployment across segmented or federated network environments.

• Knowledge of applying DISA STIGs, SCAP content, or comparable cybersecurity compliance frameworks.

• Must pass pre-employment background screening.

• Must be able to acquire and maintain a security clearance.

• Must be a U.S. citizen.

• Willingness to travel up to 10% of the time.

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office products, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, as well as industry-standard computer software and databases.

• Active Secret or Top-Secret security clearance is preferred.

• Preferred experience with RAG, embeddings, vector databases, structured outputs, tool/function calling, document parsing, information extraction, agentic or multi-step workflows, and evaluation frameworks.

• Preferred experience deploying and optimizing local or self-hosted models in disconnected, restricted, or resource-constrained environments.

• Preferred background with cloud AI platforms or hosted model services such as Azure OpenAI, AWS Bedrock, OpenAI APIs, and Google Vertex AI.

• Preferred experience in model/version management, evaluation pipelines, experiment tracking, monitoring, quality controls, and production governance.

• Preferred experience leading development teams.

• Preferred experience contributing to enterprise dashboards and full-stack web applications.

• Familiarity with RMF, CORA, and DoW cybersecurity assessment and authorization processes is preferred.

• Preferred experience supporting products through government evaluation, APL listing, accreditation, or comparable authorization activities.

• Production experience using Go for endpoint agents, scanners, network services, security tooling, or distributed systems is preferred.

• Physical ability to use computers and endure repetitive keyboarding, work in confined rack spaces, kneel, bend, twist, reach, and regularly lift up to 20 pounds.

• High degree of sensitivity regarding confidential information.
