Senior Python Developer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom.

📋 Description

• Design, develop, and enhance Python packages for modeling, simulation, and data processing.

• Take the lead on engineering decisions, architecture discussions, and resolving technical challenges.

• Transform analytical and modeling requirements into deployable software.

• Manage one or more developers through regular one-on-one meetings, setting objectives, conducting performance reviews, and providing development support.

• Provide mentorship to colleagues through code reviews, collaborative programming, and sharing knowledge.

• Ensure code quality through testing, documentation, and comprehensive code reviews.

• Collaborate across disciplines to integrate tools and achieve customer outcomes.

• Promote continuous improvement in tools, processes, and engineering standards.

• Take ownership of deliverables and maintain project momentum with urgency and accountability.

• Work alongside DESNZ, external collaborators, internal domain experts, and the development team on Python software for decarbonization.

⛳️ Requirements

• Extensive professional experience as a Python developer, at or near a senior level.

• Strong proficiency in Python and its ecosystem, including relevant libraries, tools, and best practices.

• Proven experience in developing production-grade applications, preferably in data-intensive or scientific fields.

• Capable of writing clean, maintainable, and well-tested code.

• Experience in line management or formally mentoring developers, or a willingness to take on management responsibilities.

• Strong problem-solving abilities and the capacity to communicate technical concepts effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences.

• Experience in working within multidisciplinary teams.

• Familiarity with Pydantic and/or JSON Schema is desirable.

• Experience with GitLab CI/CD is advantageous.

• Solid understanding of geometry and physics, ideally including building physics.

• Knowledge of decarbonization and energy systems.

• Experience in supporting junior engineers through onboarding or coaching is a plus.
