Senior Purchasing Specialist

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Minnesota, +1 more state.

📋 Description

• Assess, analyze, and select optimal suppliers and vendors.

• Negotiate pricing, terms, and delivery schedules for feed ingredients.

• Review alternative sources and vendors based on ingredient quality and specifications.

• Generate purchase orders and contracts when necessary.

• Place orders with vendors and finalize purchase orders in the ERP system.

• Address quality discrepancies with vendors and resolve issues promptly.

• Notify business functions and the Purchasing Manager about ingredient supply challenges.

• Assist in communication and reformulation initiatives.

• Work in collaboration with Global Grain Marketing staff, including grain merchants, originators, and CHS Hedging.

• Utilize CHS's scale and product offerings to minimize the cost of goods.

• Cultivate professional relationships with Plant Managers and Production Teams.

• Formulate purchasing strategies for designated ingredients.

• Uphold and advocate a robust safety culture.

• Adhere to safety policies, procedures, and regulations.

• Recognize and report workplace hazards, and rectify or seek assistance for unsafe conditions or actions.

• Execute other assigned duties.

⛳️ Requirements

• High School diploma or GED.

• Over 4 years of experience in supply chain management, procurement, purchasing, and commodity trading/merchandising.

• Prior experience and understanding of the feed industry, ingredient purchasing, logistics, relative value merchandising, and formulation activities.

• Advanced knowledge of Purchasing Best Business Practices, Mathematics, and Ethics.

• Experience in manufacturing purchasing, ideally within the animal nutrition sector.

• Capacity to establish and nurture strong professional relationships.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

• Ability to influence and negotiate effectively.

• Strong decision-making capabilities.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and Teams.

• Pre-employment screening may be required, including checks for drugs, criminal background, motor vehicle records, physical requirements, and FMCSA Clearinghouse.
