Senior Property Accountant

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Take ownership of the monthly financial close and reporting for two intricate, multi-use communities.

• Analyze financial accounts, prepare journal entries, and conduct necessary research.

• Maintain distinct financial reporting and tracking across residential, retail, commercial, parking, and amenity components.

• Oversee and reconcile several bank accounts while resolving any discrepancies.

• Act as the primary accounting liaison for ownership.

• Prepare and present monthly and quarterly financial outcomes.

• Manage annual CAM reconciliations, tenant billing calculations, supporting schedules, and dispute resolution.

• Facilitate interim and annual audits, collaborating with external auditors, attorneys, and lenders.

• Assist in annual budgeting and reforecasting, which includes budget templates, variance commentary, and projection schedules.

• Provide support to on-site property teams and corporate accounting functions across the portfolio.

• Address month-end financial inquiries from Property Managers and ownership.

• Train and assist Community team members on accounting systems and processes, such as Yardi.

• Supervise accounts payable and accounts receivable for both communities.

• Reconcile hospitality operations, including reservation activities, check-in/check-out processes, and cash collected.

• Record adjusting and accrual entries while completing GAAP financial statement analysis.

• Contribute to the implementation and enhancement of accounting policies and procedures.

• Serve as a resource and mentor for Staff Accountants.

• Assist the Community Accounting Manager with additional tasks and special projects.

⛳️ Requirements

• Experience with Yardi is essential and proficiency is expected from day one.

• A minimum of 4 years' experience on a real estate accounting team.

• Familiarity with mixed-use, multi-component, or commercial properties.

• Proven experience in communicating with ownership groups and presenting financial results.

• Experience in CAM reconciliation, including tenant billing and lease-related calculations.

• Capability to maintain segregated financial reporting across various property components.

• Experience managing multiple bank reconciliations within a multi-entity or multi-component portfolio.

• Proven experience facilitating external audits and preparing necessary audit schedules and supporting documentation.

• Degree in accounting or finance, or equivalent relevant experience.

• CPA certification or progress towards it is a plus.

• Ability to quickly learn new technologies and software.

• Experience in implementing and optimizing accounting processes.

• Proficiency in training property-level teams on accounting procedures.

• Strong operational and customer service skills.

• High initiative, problem-solving capabilities, and the ability to work independently.

• Comfort in balancing time and priorities between on-site property teams and the corporate accounting team.

• REIT experience is preferred.
