This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Arizona, +3 more states.
• Oversee the effective execution of geospatial, data, AI, and environmental initiatives for public, private, nonprofit, and philanthropic entities.
• Convert contracts and scopes of work into actionable project plans.
• Monitor schedules, budgets, resources, dependencies, risks, and deliverables.
• Coordinate multidisciplinary technical teams, subcontractors, and external collaborators.
• Manage multiple intricate projects from contract signing and initiation through to delivery, acceptance, and closure.
• Create and maintain integrated project-management plans that encompass schedules, workstreams, milestones, deliverables, dependencies, resource plans, decision points, and acceptance criteria.
• Address project-level challenges concerning priorities, staffing, sequencing, technical dependencies, client expectations, and contractual obligations.
• Keep project plans, meeting notes, decision logs, action registers, and team coordination updated using Monday.com or similar tools.
• Collaborate with technical staff and organizational leaders to coordinate staffing and work sequencing.
• Ensure timely reviews, approvals, and client submissions.
• Act as the primary day-to-day contact and trusted advisor for assigned clients and partners.
• Facilitate client meetings, executive project updates, planning sessions, reviews, and challenging discussions.
• Manage expectations related to scope, schedule, roles, dependencies, data requirements, and technical limitations.
• Cultivate client relationships and identify concerns, opportunities, follow-on work, evolving needs, and potential extensions.
• Represent CGS in collaborative project teams, steering committees, and external forums.
• Oversee project budgets, burn rates, labor plans, subcontractor expenses, forecasts, invoicing inputs, and completion estimates.
• Identify changes in scope, delivery risks, resource limitations, and outstanding decisions, leading mitigation efforts.
• Direct change-management processes and support amendments, modifications, or revised scopes.
• Assist with federally funded contracts, grants, cooperative agreements, and subawards, including reporting and compliance coordination.
• Maintain documentation for financial oversight, contractual accountability, audits, and organizational decision-making.
• Mentor and coach project managers, technical leads, and other team members.
• Establish operational rhythms including planning sessions, standups, reviews, retrospectives, risk assessments, and executive status reports.
• Advocate for consistent project-management practices while adapting processes to align with project needs.
• Analyze lessons learned across projects and propose enhancements to delivery predictability, financial performance, client experience, and organizational scalability.
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience in project management, business, public administration, environmental science, geography, technology, or a related field.
• At least 7 years of progressively responsible experience managing complex consulting, professional services, technology, research, environmental, or other client-facing projects.
• Significant responsibility for project financial outcomes and client relationships.
• Experience managing large, complex, or multidisciplinary projects that involve multiple workstreams, stakeholders, technical disciplines, or partner organizations.
• Capability to manage scopes, schedules, budgets, deliverables, dependencies, risks, and cross-functional teams.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
• A minimum of 5 years of experience managing geospatial, remote sensing, data science, AI, software, or environmental projects.
• At least 3 years of experience overseeing large government or federally funded engagements, including prime contracts, subcontracts, grants, cooperative agreements, or subawards.
• Strong understanding of professional services project economics, including labor planning, burn rates, estimates to complete, budget-to-actual analysis, and financial implications of scope and staffing decisions.
• Ability to translate technical and contractual details into practical project plans.
• Proven proficiency with project management platforms like Monday.com.
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, fully remote environment with multiple concurrent priorities.
• A passion for collaborative, inclusive, and client-centered project delivery.
• PMP, Agile, Scrum, or similar project management training or certification (preferred).
• Familiarity with cloud environments, data platforms, or AI development processes (preferred).
• Domain expertise in water modeling, remote sensing, and geospatial data analysis (preferred).
• Proficiency in ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Enterprise, or QGIS (preferred).
• Experience with programming and automation tools (a plus).
