Senior Project Engineer, Edge Systems

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California, +1 more state.

📋 Description

• Take ownership of the architecture for the edge runtime, which encompasses process models, camera pipelines, inference scheduling, and resource allocation.

• Design and oversee the edge-to-cloud communication framework, focusing on aspects such as reconnection, buffering, and performance in degraded network conditions.

• Manage the control interface linking inspection results with the PLC, ensuring compliance with timing and determinism standards.

• Enhance throughput, reduce latency, and optimize memory performance while handling real multi-camera production workloads.

• Streamline and integrate the edge codebase, establishing standards for its architecture and testing methodologies.

• Serve as a technical consultant for edge and systems design choices throughout the product lifecycle.

• Collaborate with DevOps to manage provisioning, updates, and rollback procedures for edge devices deployed in the field.

• Report directly to the Director of Software Engineering.

⛳️ Requirements

• A Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent relevant work experience is required.

• Must have legal authorization to work in the US.

• The employer will not provide visa sponsorship for this position, either now or in the future.

• Typically requires over 8 years of related experience in a software product development environment (preferred).

• A Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a similar technical field is preferred.

• Proven experience in architecting and delivering systems software that operates on constrained or embedded platforms.

• Demonstrated ownership of performance and reliability in real-time or near-real-time systems.

• Proficient in C++, Rust, Go, or Python for systems-level development on Linux.

• Familiarity with containerized or immutable Linux deployments on edge devices.

• Experience with camera, sensor, or other high-rate device interfaces and their pipelines.

• Background in industrial control interfaces such as PLC, EtherNet/IP, OPC UA, or similar fieldbus protocols.

• Knowledge of edge-to-cloud messaging patterns and their behavior under intermittent connectivity.

• Proven success in simplifying an existing codebase and significantly enhancing its performance.
