Senior Process Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in North Carolina.

📋 Description

• Deliver mineral processing design, analysis, and engineering services to Operations.

• Conduct process optimization studies aimed at reducing costs while enhancing yield, recovery, and quality.

• Complete process work that supports Class I–III project scope, including design and estimates, which encompasses flowsheets, material balances, equipment testing, selection, sizing, and process control.

• Lead estimates for Class I projects as needed.

• Supervise the creation of Sequences of Operations in collaboration with Controls and Automation Engineers and engineering firms on P&IDs.

• Collaborate with external consulting engineering firms on various projects.

• Oversee the start-up and commissioning phases for major capital projects.

• Lead startup teams, facilitate meetings, and provide startup updates and reports.

• Engage in project update, management review, and capital project review meetings.

• Develop and deliver technical training for plant and staff personnel.

• Conduct process analyses for Covia OEM projects and participate in related discussions.

• Collaborate with interdepartmental teams across Project Management, Controls and Automation Engineering, R&D, Geology & Mine Planning, Environmental Affairs, Safety & Health, Purchasing, Operations, and Sales.

• Maintain communication with both internal and external stakeholders, acting independently on technical project issues.

• Manage and/or contribute to projects addressing unique or complex technical challenges that impact Covia objectives.

• Carry out plant process investigations and devise solutions to enhance throughput, lower costs, improve yield, quality, and productivity.

• Direct and perform testing on new and experimental process equipment and methodologies.

• Provide technical support to plants through process studies, training, and the implementation of continuous improvement initiatives.

• Process plant-feed samples through the CFS for audit comparison and mine-planning reconciliation evaluations.

• Oversee the updating of plant equipment lists, flowsheets, and material balances.

• Generate detailed reports in accordance with process policies and procedures.

• Participate in the development and updates of Engineering Standards.

• Ensure Engineering Standards are applied consistently and uniformly.

• Submit weekly activity reports, project kickoff documents, startup updates, project memos, reports, and source files.

• Travel 40–50% as necessary to initiate, advance, and complete projects.

• Uphold high engineering standards while adhering to departmental policies and procedures.

• Stay informed about technical advancements in the metallurgical and minerals processing fields.

• Maintain and enhance personal-computer engineering capabilities.

• Perform additional duties as assigned.

⛳️ Requirements

• A Bachelor of Science degree or an equivalent qualification in an Engineering discipline.

• At least 5 years of engineering or equivalent professional experience.

• Preference will be given to candidates with experience in mineral processing, bulk material handling systems, or heavy industry.

• Willingness to travel 40–50% as required.

• Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.

• Ability to maintain technical skills through available training opportunities.

• Knowledge of technical advancements in the metallurgical/minerals processing sectors.

• Proficiency in using personal computers for engineering tasks.
