Senior Platform Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Advocate for developer experience and enablement throughout the organization by creating architectural patterns, runtime tools, workflows, and documentation related to the federated gateway.

• Simplify the process for teams in designing schemas, developing subgraphs, and utilizing APIs.

• Enhance developer experience by collecting feedback from engineering teams, monitoring platform-tooling adoption, and eliminating friction points.

• Design, construct, and oversee the federated GraphQL gateway utilizing Federation v2 and gRPC services.

• Create and manage the platform authentication service, integrating OAuth and SAML single sign-on as well as secure API access.

• Incorporate observability into the GraphQL gateway and platform APIs through metrics, distributed tracing, and structured logging.

• Analyze and optimize existing systems for improved speed, latency, and resource efficiency.

• Collaborate effectively with product, engineering, DevOps teams, and external vendors.

• Assume responsibility for issues and incidents until resolution, enhancing long-term system reliability.

• Offer guidance and mentorship to colleagues while sharing knowledge and best practices.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 5 years of practical experience in software development within contemporary engineering environments, focusing on building and managing production services at scale.

• Profound knowledge of JavaScript and TypeScript.

• Significant experience with Node.js and service-to-service APIs like gRPC.

• Extensive background in developing developer tools and enhancing developer experience within an engineering organization, covering schema workflows, code generation, documentation, and best practices.

• In-depth, practical experience in building and operating federated GraphQL gateways using Federation v2, including subgraph design, schema composition, and governance.

• Strong expertise in building observability into GraphQL and other APIs, encompassing operation-level tracing, metrics, and structured logging.

• Demonstrated history of profiling and optimizing live systems for enhanced speed and latency.

• Solid understanding of authentication systems and protocols such as OAuth 2.0, OIDC, and SAML, including session management and token lifecycle.

• Strong experience in designing and managing cloud-based distributed systems, particularly with AWS.

• Excellent communication and collaboration abilities.

• Familiarity with React or similar frontend frameworks, or systems programming languages, is a plus.

• Experience in compliance-driven environments like SOC 2 is a plus.

• Kubernetes experience is considered an advantage.

• Familiarity with AI-native systems, including LLM-powered tools, agent sandboxing, model serving, or usage-based billing, is a plus.
