Senior PHP/Symfony Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Pakistan.

📋 Description

• Take ownership of backend development in the primary Symfony application.

• Evaluate code generated by both the team and AI tools critically.

• Assist in the migration of the application from Symfony 6.1 to Symfony 7.

• Enhance the performance, scalability, and maintainability of the application.

• Collaborate across Angular, TypeScript, Python AI agent services, and DevOps domains.

• Analyze and comprehend the Angular/TypeScript codebase.

• Grasp the system-wide implications of technical decisions.

• Determine root causes and refine implementation methods.

• Provide sustainable solutions within a legacy codebase.

• Operate both independently and collaboratively within a remote, cross-functional team.

• Ensure adherence to SOC 2, PII, and security protocols.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 8 years of experience in commercial software engineering, including more than 5 years in PHP.

• More than 7 years of expert-level experience in PHP.

• At least 3 years of recent commercial experience with Symfony 6.x/7 at an advanced level; significant senior experience in Laravel may also be considered.

• More than 4 years of advanced experience in backend system design and scalability.

• At least 2 years of advanced experience in critically utilizing AI tools, including reviewing and questioning AI-generated outcomes.

• Over 5 years of advanced MySQL expertise in schema design and query optimization; experience with PostgreSQL or another relational database of similar depth may be taken into account.

• At least 1 year of familiarity with Angular/TypeScript; experience with React or Vue with TypeScript may be acceptable; no front-end exposure is disqualifying.

• Over 3 years of advanced automated testing experience with PHPUnit; Pest or similar PHP testing frameworks may be considered.

• At least 1 year of intermediate experience with framework upgrades and modernizing legacy code.

• More than 2 years of intermediate experience with AWS; Azure or GCP experience may be considered.

• Proficient in written and spoken English.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a proven track record of effective remote work.

• Availability to work UK hours.

• Capability to pass stringent background checks and adhere to PII policies.

• Strong self-sufficiency, with the ability to operate with minimal supervision after 2–3 months.

• Hands-on technical approach coupled with an architectural mindset.

• Commitment to respecting SOC 2, PII, and security controls.
