Senior Payroll Specialist

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Oversee the complete US and international payroll process, from gathering inputs to final reconciliation.

• Take ownership of all related payroll tax filings, both domestic and international, ensuring the company's compliance and punctuality.

• Manage relationships with PEO and EOR providers, clearly understanding where their responsibilities end and where internal duties begin.

• Reconcile payroll with the general ledger during each cycle and assist with month-end closing activities.

• Develop and maintain the payroll calendar, processes, and documentation as payroll transitions into the Finance department.

• Collaborate with People/Talent and accounting teams on new hires, changes, terminations, and month-end reconciliations.

• Provide support for equity administration in Carta and prepare equity reports for the board.

• Act as the primary contact for internal payroll inquiries and external auditor requests.

⛳️ Requirements

• Proven hands-on experience in managing both US and international payroll, including Canada and/or the EU.

• Direct experience in managing payroll tax filings rather than merely delegating them to a provider.

• Background in multi-state US payroll for a remote and distributed workforce.

• Strong expertise in working within PEO and/or EOR frameworks.

• Familiarity with startup-oriented platforms such as Rippling, Deel, Remote, or similar solutions.

• Ability to work autonomously as a subject-matter expert, managing multiple tasks while identifying tax, legal, and compliance risks before they escalate.

• CPP, FPC, or a comparable payroll certification is a plus.

• Experience in bringing payroll in-house, changing providers, or migrating an HRIS is advantageous.

• Familiarity with equity administration in Carta is a bonus.

• Experience working at a rapidly growing company with a distributed, international team is beneficial.
