Senior Packaging Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Germany.

📋 Description

• Standardize packaging formats, materials, and equipment across various regions while ensuring compliance with regulatory and customer-specific requirements.

• Collaborate with Procurement, Operations, Engineering, Regulatory, Quality, and EHS to drive sustainable, reliable, and cost-effective packaging solutions.

• Spearhead packaging initiatives and manage documentation in alignment with the goals of European Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation.

• Oversee packaging and packaging waste compliance programs related to Extended Producer Responsibility regulations specific to each country.

• Implement installation and retrofitting of packaging equipment.

• Create global technical specifications and standards.

• Facilitate competitive bidding and ensure consistent quality across suppliers in collaboration with Procurement.

• Manage packaging-related capital projects from concept through design, testing, commissioning, and startup in partnership with Engineering.

• Travel approximately 30% of the time.

• Contribute to organizational objectives by taking initiative, executing goals, and emphasizing performance and safety.

• Enhance organizational capacity and capabilities through collaboration, talent optimization, and effective communication and influence.

• Act as a subject matter expert and individual contributor without direct reports.

• Concentrate on the technical aspects of capital projects rather than project management.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in mechanical, industrial, or packaging engineering.

• Approximately 10 years of progressive experience in industrial or chemical packaging.

• Experience in regulated manufacturing environments.

• Familiarity with European packaging sustainability and regulatory frameworks.

• Knowledge in packaging materials sourcing and supplier management.

• Experience in packaging testing, validation, and change management.

• Proven track record in Capital Project Execution.

• Proficiency in Excel and data analysis.

• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

• Consistently demonstrate responsible and ethical behavior.

• Ability to drive greater value for the company by understanding the business, making complex decisions, and innovating.

• Fluent in English.

• Residing in Germany.

• Fluency in German is an advantage.

• Preferred experience in the pharma, food, or personal care sectors.

• Experience with U.S.-based projects and suppliers is preferred.

• Preferred management of vendors submitting regulatory reports.

• Support for sustainability programs, including material selection and design, packaging footprint reduction, and documentation is preferred.

• Experience in maintaining documentation for regulatory and customer audits is preferred.
