Senior MuleSoft API Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Design, configure, develop, integrate, test, document, and maintain MuleSoft capabilities utilizing the Anypoint Platform, API Manager, Runtime Manager, CloudHub, Mule 4, DataWeave, REST/SOAP APIs, connectors, policies, and CI/CD automation.

• Create API-led integration layers, reusable services, DataWeave transformations, runtime policies, and ensure secure connectivity among enterprise systems.

• Convert business, mission, security, accessibility, and operational requirements into actionable technical solutions.

• Assist in platform architecture, backlog refinement, implementation planning, release readiness, and production transition tasks.

• Develop reusable patterns, configuration standards, automation scripts, documentation, and support procedures aimed at minimizing delivery and sustainment risks.

• Diagnose complex issues involving platform configuration, code, data, APIs, identity, security, performance, and user experience.

• Work collaboratively with cybersecurity, privacy, data, infrastructure, QA, and change management teams to ensure alignment with federal operational standards.

• Maintain comprehensive technical documentation, including design decisions, implementation notes, test evidence, and operational runbooks.

• Provide senior platform engineering or application development support for MuleSoft capabilities within the CRM, Integration, and Platform Services environment.

• Facilitate API-led connectivity, system integration, reusable services, data exchange, and secure enterprise interoperability for government digital services.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software Engineering, Data Analytics, Cybersecurity, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.

• Over 6 years of experience in senior platform engineering or application development.

• Practical experience with MuleSoft implementation, configuration, development, integration, testing, or operations.

• Experience collaborating with Agile delivery teams and translating stakeholder requirements into sustainable technical results.

• In-depth knowledge of MuleSoft capabilities, implementation patterns, administration, development, integration, and lifecycle management.

• Capability to design and implement secure, maintainable, upgrade-aware solutions that minimize unnecessary customization and reduce technical debt.

• Familiarity with APIs, identity and access controls, data management, testing, monitoring, troubleshooting, and release coordination.

• Proficient in documenting technical designs, configuration decisions, operational procedures, test outcomes, and risks in clear business and technical language.

• Excellent communication skills with the ability to liaise effectively with government stakeholders, product owners, engineers, QA, cybersecurity, and operations teams.

• Eligibility to obtain a Public Trust clearance.

• Desired: MuleSoft Certified Developer, MuleSoft Certified Integration Architect, MuleSoft Certified Platform Architect, or similar API/integration certification.

• Desired: Experience in supporting federal government IT environments, Public Trust programs, or regulated enterprise delivery.

• Desired: Knowledge of Section 508, cybersecurity, auditability, data protection, and operational documentation requirements.

• Desired: Experience with DevSecOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, infrastructure as code, or platform release automation.

• Desired: Understanding of federal security and compliance concepts, including NIST controls, FISMA, FedRAMP-authorized services, audit evidence, and least privilege principles.

• Desired: Background in enhancing platform governance, reuse, documentation, observability, and operational preparedness.

• Desired: Familiarity with Microsoft 365, ServiceNow, Atlassian, Snowflake, data catalog, CRM, or enterprise integration ecosystems.
