Senior MS SQL DBA

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Virginia.

📋 Description

• Manage and provide support for SQL Server and cloud databases within the Tolling division.

• Offer help desk and application assistance as part of a rotation with the Tolling team.

• Monitor databases to ensure consistent uptime and availability.

• Diagnose and resolve application/database issues related to connectivity, access, security, and other concerns.

• Optimize long-running SQL queries.

• Assess and enhance existing database tasks and processes to align with agency/group objectives.

• Utilize operating system scripting tools for database maintenance, diagnostics, and support.

• Review database implementations and suggest, execute, and/or oversee necessary modifications.

• Conduct SQL Server installations, including SQL Server 2022 and 2025+ with failover clustering.

• Administer, support, and optimize SQL Server databases.

• Collaborate with Engineering and Operations professionals.

⛳️ Requirements

• Proven experience as a SQL Server DBA.

• Strong expertise in SQL clustering, mirroring, and high availability.

• Experience with large SQL databases.

• Proficient in writing Transact SQL.

• Background in tuning SQL Server databases.

• Expertise in installing, upgrading, patching, and migrating SQL Server databases.

• Familiarity with the Windows platform.

• Exposure to SSIS, SSAS, and SSRS.

• Experience with Azure Cloud.

• Minimum of 2 years of experience with Microsoft SQL Server databases.

• At least 1 year of experience with Azure, Snowflake, or Databricks; a certification may substitute for experience.

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, or a related field, or equivalent skills, knowledge, and work history.

• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively using standard requirements and design artifacts.

• Experience with SQL Server 2019 and later.

• Understanding of data modeling principles.

• A fingerprint-based background check is required.

• Required experience: 2 years of SQL Server tuning.

• Required experience: 1 year working with SSIS, SSRS, and SSAS.

• Required experience: 1 year of coding and debugging Transact SQL.

• Required experience: 1 year of installing, upgrading, patching, and migrating SQL Server databases.

• Required experience: 2 years of database administration on Azure Cloud, Snowflake, and/or Databricks.
