Senior Medical Science Liaison – Ophthalmology

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Michigan.

📋 Description

• Act as a highly skilled, field-based scientific authority in the realm of ophthalmology, especially in relation to retinal diseases.

• Function as the main medical contact in the designated geographic area.

• Sustain clinical and scientific proficiency in ophthalmology and the standards of care for wet AMD.

• Facilitate compliant scientific peer discussions regarding wet AMD and the company’s product offerings.

• Interact with healthcare professionals, key opinion leaders (KOLs), scientific communities, professional organizations, and related entities.

• Conduct pre-launch profiling of KOLs and major accounts/institutions.

• Create and monitor strategic engagement plans for KOLs.

• Provide scientific information to health systems, population health leaders, medical quality professionals, and medical groups.

• Present clinical and scientific information to healthcare providers, health systems, leadership, advocacy organizations, payors, and formulary committees.

• Cultivate relationships with KOLs and key decision-makers.

• Offer insights into market trends and clinical intelligence.

• Collaborate with Medical Affairs leadership, clients, thought leaders, research and development teams, commercial colleagues, and internal departments.

• Assist with clinical research, clinical trials, investigator-initiated trial proposals, and related activities as necessary.

• Attend and report on symposia, scientific and clinical meetings, continuing medical education (CME) events, congresses, and medical gatherings.

• Oversee time management and travel expense budgets within the assigned regions.

• Address and document unsolicited inquiries for medical and scientific information.

• Relay KOL feedback and insights to internal teams.

• Provide medical support, clinical insights, and training for internal teams.

• Comply with corporate standard operating procedures (SOPs) and legal and regulatory standards.

• Manage the designated territory while contributing to organizational objectives beyond the territory.

⛳️ Requirements

• An advanced degree (e.g., OD, PharmD, PhD, MD, MSN, DNP, or NP/PA) is mandatory.

• MSL: At least 2 years of prior MSL experience is required.

• MSL: A minimum of 1 year of experience in ophthalmology with a solid understanding of retinal disorders.

• Senior MSL: At least 5 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry.

• Senior MSL: A minimum of 3 years of experience in rare diseases and ophthalmology.

• Outstanding scientific, business, and clinical insight.

• Exceptional communication and networking abilities.

• Proficient in interpreting and presenting scientific data to engage KOLs.

• Familiarity with standards of care for prostate cancer.

• Capability to present complex scientific, value, and evidence data to payors and/or formulary committees.

• Desired: Knowledge of ophthalmology screening and wellness initiatives.

• Desired: Familiarity with institutions and clinics within selected regions.

• Excellent written and verbal presentation capabilities.

• Willingness to travel frequently (70%) with overnight stays required.

• Ability to adhere to corporate SOPs and relevant legal and regulatory guidelines.
