Senior Medical Science Liaison – Ophthalmology

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.

📋 Description

• Serve as the main medical contact within the designated geographic area.

• Maintain clinical and scientific knowledge in ophthalmology, with a focus on neovascular age-related macular degeneration (wet AMD).

• Interact with healthcare professionals, key opinion leaders (KOLs), and scientific communities to facilitate compliant peer-to-peer scientific discussions.

• Carry out pre-launch profiling of KOLs and assess top accounts/institutions.

• Create and monitor strategic engagement plans for KOLs.

• Provide clinical and scientific information to health systems, population health leaders, and medical quality professionals.

• Deliver clinical and scientific presentations to healthcare providers, health systems, medical groups, community organizations, and advocacy groups.

• Establish relationships with KOLs, decision-makers, professional societies, and healthcare organizations.

• Offer insights into market trends and clinical intelligence.

• Collaborate with Medical Affairs leadership, clients, thought leaders, R&D, implementation teams, commercial colleagues, and internal teams.

• Attend and report on symposiums, scientific and clinical meetings, CME events, congresses, and medical gatherings.

• Manage time and travel expense budgets effectively.

• Address clinical program requests and unsolicited medical information inquiries.

• Support clinical trial sites and investigators, serving as a resource for investigator-initiated trial proposals.

• Represent the client at medical meetings by providing scientific booth coverage.

• Offer internal medical support, clinical input, and training.

• Comply with corporate standard operating procedures (SOPs) and legal and regulatory requirements.

• Relay feedback and insights from KOL interactions to internal teams.

⛳️ Requirements

• An advanced degree (e.g., OD, PharmD, PhD, MD, MSN, DNP, or NP/PA) is required.

• For MSL position: at least 2 years of prior MSL experience is necessary.

• For MSL position: a minimum of 1 year of ophthalmology experience along with a working knowledge of retinal disorders is essential.

• For Sr. MSL position: a minimum of 5 years of pharmaceutical experience is required.

• For Sr. MSL position: at least 3 years of experience in rare diseases and ophthalmology is necessary.

• Capable of interpreting and presenting scientific data to engage KOLs.

• Familiarity with standards of care for ophthalmology and retinal disorders.

• Ability to present complex scientific, value, and evidence data to payors and/or formulary committees.

• Working knowledge of institutions and clinics within specified geographic areas.

• Exceptional written, verbal, and presentation skills.

• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.

• Ability to work independently and manage time efficiently.

• Willingness to travel frequently (70%) with overnight stays.

• Adherence to corporate SOPs and relevant legal and regulatory guidelines.

• A solid understanding of ophthalmology screening and wellness programs is highly desirable.

• Previous experience in product launches is preferred.

• Experience in sharing scientific content with payer systems is highly advantageous.
