This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Texas.
• Oversee design initiatives for significant transmission line projects by collaborating with internal teams, managing external engineering consultants, and engaging with project stakeholders.
• Direct the planning of project design activities, which encompasses engineering scope, budget, and timelines.
• Evaluate detailed design submissions and studies for compliance with technical standards, permitting and land requirements, customer financing needs, and execution necessities.
• Manage the engineering and testing of transmission structures, geotechnical investigations, encroachments, and utility crossing agreements.
• Offer engineering support for project development, permit assistance, landowner coordination, and risk management.
• Participate in site visits to evaluate the suitability and constructability of routes.
• Interact with landowners, community members, and other stakeholders to explain technical aspects of the project.
• Remain updated on technological advancements and capabilities in HVDC and the transmission sector, sharing knowledge throughout the organization.
• Prepare and revise project CAPEX estimates utilizing internal tools and market research.
• Provide technical due diligence support, including conducting fatal flaw analyses for early-stage development opportunities and potential acquisitions.
• Suggest and implement lessons learned to foster ongoing improvement.
• Develop and manage RFPs, which includes contract oversight and the drafting and administration of MSAs and SOs for engineering scopes of work.
• Report directly to the Vice President of Engineering.
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering (civil, electrical, mechanical, or environmental) from an ABET-accredited institution.
• At least 8 years of experience in designing or managing the design of high-voltage transmission lines.
• Comprehensive understanding of the design and construction process for transmission projects.
• Strong desire to learn the latest advancements in the power industry and transmission development.
• Capability to work independently with minimal supervision and to lead external teams effectively.
• Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to cultivate relationships and collaborate with professionals from various disciplines.
• Outstanding organizational skills, including the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently while maintaining a focus on accuracy and quality.
• Proficient in prioritizing and managing several tasks and projects to meet deadlines.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage with landowners and other project stakeholders to communicate technical information.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite products (Excel, PowerPoint) — required.
• Experience with PLS-CADD — required.
• Familiarity with ArcGIS Online — preferred.
• Flexibility and adaptability to manage deadline pressures, ambiguity, uncertainty, and project changes.
