This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Determine the key information that the engineering community associates with Airbnb.
• Oversee the complete operation of the Airbnb Tech Blog, which includes topic selection, mentoring engineer-authors, editing content, and coordinating legal, security, and communications reviews.
• Create and sustain a consistent publishing schedule.
• Recognize and share cross-team technical narratives by publishing interconnected content sets.
• Assist engineers and technical leaders in enhancing their public profiles through bylines, presentations, speaker coaching, and the development of new voices.
• Collaborate with the CTO to cultivate his public technical identity.
• Establish a central hub for Airbnb's official technical content on an Airbnb-owned domain.
• Create additional distribution channels, such as video, and define the role of social media platforms.
• Develop strategies for conferences and events, manage hosted functions, and oversee partnerships with academic institutions and technical media.
• Handle associated budgets and vendor relationships.
• Manage Airbnb's open source initiatives, ensuring that public claims and projects are correct and up to date.
• Collaborate with Talent Acquisition to align technical branding efforts with hiring outcomes and evaluate attribution.
• Extensive experience in technical content creation, developer relations, engineering communications, or technical editorial work, including direct collaboration with engineers.
• Technical proficiency adequate to engage in systems design discussions, read design documents, and evaluate technical content.
• Strong editorial judgment and practical editing capabilities.
• Ability to influence without formal authority through the development of systems and incentives.
• Experience managing events, budgets, and vendor relationships from start to finish.
• Ability to link branding initiatives to funnel outcomes and comprehend attribution limitations.
• Experience navigating legal and security reviews and assessing publication risks.
• Nice to have: Experience transitioning a technical publication across platforms, including search engine optimization and redirect tasks.
• Nice to have: Experience managing or enhancing an open source program.
• Nice to have: Experience assisting a senior executive in establishing a public technical presence.
• Nice to have: Familiarity with AI and ML engineering subjects, as well as academic or research communications.
• Nice to have: Experience with video or multi-format content creation.
