Senior Manager, Software Engineering

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Australia.

📋 Description

• Lead, mentor, and nurture a multidisciplinary team of over 10 engineers throughout Australia.

• Manage hiring processes, oversee performance evaluations, plan for succession, and facilitate career development.

• Foster leadership skills among senior engineers and technical team leads.

• Collaborate with Product Management to influence product and technical direction.

• Convert priorities into actionable roadmaps and execution strategies.

• Oversee delivery within complex, cross-functional dependencies.

• Enhance transparency, predictability, and effectiveness in delivery.

• Provide guidance on architectural integrity and assess significant technical proposals across backend, frontend, data systems, and cloud infrastructure.

• Take responsibility for operational outcomes concerning reliability, scalability, performance, security, cost optimization, observability, incident learning, and reduction of technical debt.

• Advocate for AI-assisted and intelligent development practices throughout the software development lifecycle.

• Relay progress, risks, technical context, trade-offs, and recommendations to senior leadership and cross-functional stakeholders.

• Develop and maintain AI-powered analytics products utilized by customers globally.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 10 years of experience in owning and delivering mission-critical software platforms, core systems, or intricate SaaS products.

• Proven track record as an engineering manager, achieving results that extend beyond a single team or across a complex technical landscape.

• Extensive experience with distributed systems and leading teams responsible for scalable cloud services, production infrastructure, and customer-facing software.

• Strong engineering judgment regarding architecture, system design, service boundaries, data flows, performance, reliability, security, and operational trade-offs.

• Experience in enhancing engineering quality through automated testing, CI/CD, observability, incident management, secure development practices, and disciplined management of technical debt.

• Successful history of mentoring engineers at various career stages, developing technical leaders, and achieving results through collaboration.

• Demonstrated ability to influence product and engineering strategies and synchronize teams across Product, Design, Architecture, Platform, SRE, InfoSec, and Engineering.

• Experience in navigating ambiguity, organizational shifts, competing priorities, and incomplete information while maintaining clarity, focus, and team engagement.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills suitable for technical, product, customer-facing, and executive audiences.

• Familiarity with modern technologies in a complex SaaS setting.
