This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Lead the software development team's initiatives for software enhancements and the creation of new products.
• Set individual objectives for team members and align them with the overall goals of the team and the company.
• Mentor team members and offer consistent feedback to enhance performance, accountability, growth, and development.
• Foster a culture of belonging, respect, and open communication.
• Supervise the specification, design, implementation, testing, deployment, and operation of production software systems.
• Collaborate with software program managers and internal stakeholders to clarify application requirements and necessary modifications.
• Manage and prioritize the efforts of the software development team.
• Cultivate a technical understanding of production systems and plan for ongoing improvements through the elimination of technical debt.
• Engage in software release activities.
• Provide production support and resolve production-related issues.
• Carry out additional responsibilities as assigned.
• A Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Bioinformatics, or a related field is required, with a minimum of 12 years of relevant software engineering and leadership experience.
• Alternatively, a Master’s degree in computer science with at least 8 years of relevant experience is acceptable.
• Proven experience in creating and maintaining complex software using contemporary methodologies in both Linux and Windows environments.
• Extensive experience with Python or Groovy; Java or C#; and relational databases such as Oracle or Postgres.
• Strong knowledge of source control, unit testing, in-code documentation, and automated build environments.
• Excellent communication skills for effective collaboration with non-computer scientists, including lab technicians, biologists, geneticists, and statisticians.
• Ability to work effectively within a team; willingness to engage in pair programming and/or code reviews.
• Experience in managing production issues, interacting with primary users, and delivering production support.
• Capability to understand, debug, maintain, and/or refactor legacy code.
• Familiarity with Java Servlets, JSPs, HTML, and JavaScript.
• Knowledge of object-oriented JavaScript frameworks like AngularJS.
• Experience with build tools such as Ant or Gradle.
• Knowledge of web UI frameworks, web services, and RESTful APIs.
