This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.
• Take ownership of the merchant risk policy, which encompasses onboarding criteria, verification standards, exceptions, escalation procedures, and continuous monitoring.
• Collaborate with Legal, Finance, and the VP to define Jane's risk appetite.
• Manage portfolio losses and risk reporting, which includes loss rates, approval rates, time-to-decision metrics, dispute win rates, budgeting, and forecasting.
• Create a transaction monitoring strategy that outlines rules, risk flags, review processes, thresholds, decision times, and false-positive rates.
• Establish a dispute strategy aimed at enhancing customer win rates and minimizing disputes.
• Make decisions regarding escalations, holds, and merchant offboarding, seeking executive or legal approval when necessary.
• Detect fraudulent merchants and those whose risk profiles have worsened.
• Advise on compliance approaches for card network and Stripe obligations in collaboration with Legal and the VP.
• Formulate a systems and tooling strategy that transforms manual processes into AI-driven systems with autonomous workflows, while identifying areas requiring human oversight.
• Build the payments risk function and work collaboratively across teams.
• Over 6 years of experience in payments risk.
• Preferably possess leadership or highly cross-functional experience.
• Background in embedded payments at a software platform that assumes liability.
• Proficient in acquiring, underwriting, chargebacks, and transaction monitoring.
• Knowledge of Stripe, particularly Stripe Connect, or a similar platform is beneficial.
• Capable of drafting and executing effective policies.
• Skilled at explaining complex decisions with empathy to clinic owners.
• Ability to develop reporting independently.
• Experience with SQL, Stripe Sigma, or similar tools is a plus.
• Comfortable being the sole person in the function initially.
• Must be currently residing and working in Canada.
• Must be eligible to work in Canada without employer sponsorship.
• No relocation, visa sponsorship, or third-party/employer-of-record support provided.
• Annual salary range of $156,000 to $253,500 USD.
