This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Maryland.

📋 Description

• Direct the creation, execution, and ongoing enhancement of USP’s Global Trade Compliance program.

• Convert program objectives into actionable workplans and measurable team initiatives.

• Align priorities, processes, and execution among geographically distributed teams in the U.S. and India.

• Assist in governance routines, performance monitoring, issue escalation, and resource alignment.

• Offer both direct and functional leadership to Global Trade Compliance team members in the U.S. and India.

• Establish goals and performance standards, mentor direct reports, provide documented feedback, and encourage professional growth.

• Foster an inclusive, psychologically safe, engaged, and collaborative team environment.

• Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to offer trade compliance advice and embed requirements into business processes.

• Uphold trade compliance risk tolerance that aligns with USP’s organizational risk profile.

• Supervise adherence to U.S. import/export laws, tariffs, sanctions requirements, and USP standards.

• Identify, evaluate, and mitigate trade-related risks in collaboration with Legal and business stakeholders.

• Create and sustain trade compliance procedures, guidance, and best practices.

• Oversee HTS, Schedule B, ECCN classification, jurisdiction and license determinations, and classification databases.

• Manage restricted party screening programs, escalations, training, and access controls.

• Coordinate with customs brokers, freight forwarders, and internal stakeholders for compliant import/export operations.

• Monitor service quality and manage AES filings, country-of-origin determinations, valuation, free trade agreements, and recordkeeping.

• Support trade compliance needs for product launches, global expansion, and changing business activities.

• Design and implement role-specific import/export compliance training programs.


⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in business administration, Economics, or a related field; or equivalent experience.

• At least 8 years of relevant experience with U.S. import and export regulations and global trade.

• A minimum of 2 years of managerial experience.

• Proven experience collaborating with a global team.

• Extensive understanding of U.S. export laws and regulations, tariffs, and U.S. denied parties and sanctioned country laws, including OFAC and other country trade regulations.

• Capability to successfully lead and implement compliance initiatives with a positive and collaborative approach.

• Proficient in planning and managing multiple tasks while engaging with individuals across the organization at all levels.

• Licensed Customs Broker and/or trade-related certifications are required.

• Strong attention to detail, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities.

• Capacity to work in a fast-paced environment with time-sensitive submissions and strict reporting deadlines.

• Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

• Experience in a functional management structure is preferred.

• Background in the pharmaceutical, chemical, and biologics industries is desirable.
