Regional Senior Compliance Specialist, Compliance & Dangerous Goods

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Texas.

📋 Description

• Provide assistance to the Customs/Compliance and Dangerous Goods teams by collecting hours, generating documentation, and organizing system details.

• Develop executive-level presentations and aid in the collection of behavioral observation data.

• Ensure visibility of Customs/Compliance data across North and South America.

• Communicate Customs/Compliance achievements and compile alerts, newsletters, operational instructions, and training materials.

• Assist with onsite assessments for Customs/Compliance and standardize procedures across various locations.

• Prepare, review, and organize import/export documents, including Commercial Invoices, Packing Lists, Bills of Lading, Certificates of Origin, and Customs Entries.

• Aid in the classification of HS/HTS goods.

• Collaborate with customs brokers, freight forwarders, and logistics providers to address shipment holds and delays.

• Maintain import/export records in line with statutory retention requirements.

• Create and manage forms as records.

• Support compliance with lithium battery regulations under UN3480, UN3481, UN3090, and UN3091.

• Prepare and verify Dangerous Goods documentation, including Shipper’s Declarations, IMO Dangerous Goods Declarations, and Bills of Lading.

• Track IATA, IMDG, and DOT regulatory updates and revise Standard Work Instructions accordingly.

• Ensure adherence to IATA DGR requirements, including State and Operator variations, 30% State of Charge limits, and aircraft restrictions.

• Manage IMDG shipments, focusing on segregation, container marking, and placarding.

• Oversee domestic ground transport under 49 CFR/DOT and distinguish between Excepted versus Fully Regulated shipments.

• Enhance warehouse and storage safety for lithium batteries, including designated storage zones and compliance with fire codes.

• Implement segregation protocols for lithium-ion and lithium-metal cells.

• Establish areas for Damaged, Defective, or Recalled batteries and thermal-runaway emergency procedures.

• Conduct audits on warehouse racking, labeling, and packaging integrity.

• Provide DG awareness training, along with 49 CFR and IATA training for warehouse personnel.

• Audit packing lines to ensure proper UN-specification packaging and cushioning materials.

• Travel as required, approximately 35–50% of the time.

⛳️ Requirements

• Minimum A.A/A.S degree or equivalent practical experience in a Customs/Compliance or administrative coordination role.

• Current IATA DGR Certification for the transport of Dangerous Goods by Air (Category 1 or 6).

• Valid IMDG Code Certification for the transport of Dangerous Goods by Sea.

• Comprehensive understanding of Title 49 of the Code of Federal Regulations for domestic U.S. transport.

• At least 2 years of experience in a logistics or warehouse setting, particularly focused on high-density lithium battery storage and distribution.

• Strong organizational capabilities and thorough knowledge of documentation standards.

• Experience in data compilation and reporting.

• Ability to convert complex Customs/Compliance metrics into concise executive summaries.

• Excellent communication skills.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including advanced PowerPoint and Excel, as well as G Suite.

• Background in Logistics or Supply Chain Management with a focus on handling dangerous goods materials.

• Familiar with UN 38.3 Testing Summaries and capable of interpreting Safety Data Sheets (SDS).

• Skills in Customs/Compliance data analysis and tracking.

• Technical documentation and presentation design expertise.

• Familiarity with regional logistics.

• Experience with lithium battery safety systems, such as specialized fire suppression and thermal monitoring.

• Background in EHS management.

• Proficiency in Warehouse Management Systems that integrate Dangerous Goods.

• Proficiency in customs management software and Google Sheets.

• Effective auditing practices.

• Willingness to travel as necessary.
