This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Take ownership of the complete strategic sourcing process for a designated portfolio of direct-material commodities, which includes supplier selection, RFQ, award, and continuous commercial management.
• Spearhead commercial negotiations focusing on pricing, tooling/NRE, manufacturing value-added services, payment terms, and Master Purchase Agreements.
• Develop and implement supply continuity strategies, such as dual-sourcing, alternative source qualification, buffer/inventory plans, and risk mitigation tactics.
• Lead New Product Introduction sourcing alongside Engineering and Product teams to achieve cost and availability objectives.
• Create and sustain supplier chessboard/JDM strategies.
• Manage quarter-over-quarter cost locks and PPV reductions while maintaining commodity cost models and collaborating with Finance and Planning for forecasting.
• Oversee supplier performance concerning quality, delivery, cost, and innovation through regular business reviews and escalations.
• Incorporate AI and analytics into procurement for spend analysis, should-cost assessments, and supplier-risk management.
• Collaborate with Legal, Operations Engineering, and Planning on contracts, intellectual property, disputes, transitions, and allocations.
• Mentor analysts and supply managers while scaling sourcing processes and decision-making frameworks.
• Advocate for and integrate Samsara’s cultural principles.
• Report directly to the Head of Production Procurement and work closely with Engineering, Product, Finance, and Planning teams.
• Represent Samsara with strategic suppliers and contract manufacturers worldwide, including consistent engagement with partners in Asia.
• A minimum of 8 years in strategic sourcing, procurement, or global supply management.
• Experience in direct commodity ownership and commercial negotiations involving multi-million-dollar expenditures.
• Background in sourcing hardware/electro-mechanical components like cables, connectors, PCB/PCBA, sensors, batteries, memory, or semiconductors.
• Demonstrated NPI sourcing experience from early supplier engagement to production launch.
• Strong capability in should-cost analysis and cost modeling.
• Experience in managing global suppliers and contract/joint-design manufacturers, including partnerships in Asia.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with the ability to influence senior cross-functional stakeholders.
• Willingness to travel internationally, including visits to supplier sites in Asia, up to approximately 25% of the time.
• Depth of knowledge in one or more core commodities is preferred.
• Familiarity with dual-source frameworks, locked-markup or directed-buy structures, and strategic inventory/buffer programs is preferred.
• People leadership experience is preferred.
• Familiarity with ERP/NetSuite, cost databases, and data-driven sourcing analytics is preferred.
• Practical experience applying AI and advanced analytics in procurement is preferred.
