This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Direct and oversee MZLA’s finance function, taking overall responsibility for accounting, financial planning and analysis, tax, treasury, and finance operations.
• Lead and nurture MZLA’s finance team by setting priorities, defining responsibilities, implementing review practices, and ensuring accountability.
• Supervise the monthly and annual closing processes, financial reporting, reconciliations, accounting policies, and internal controls.
• Manage accounting and revenue recognition across various revenue streams including donations, subscriptions, enterprise arrangements, and partnerships.
• Spearhead the annual budgeting process, forecasting, long-term financial planning, and scenario analysis.
• Create management reports and visualizations that highlight trends, risks, trade-offs, and decision-making insights.
• Oversee tax, audit, indirect tax, VAT/GST, corporate filings, and collaborate with external advisers on related matters.
• Assess financial, tax, accounting, and operational impacts of potential new jurisdictions or entities.
• Establish financial reporting, reconciliation, and control processes for partner-led commercial arrangements in collaboration with Enterprise Partnerships and Legal.
• Manage financial reporting to MZLA’s parent organization and affiliated Mozilla entities.
• Ensure financial oversight of payroll across multiple providers in coordination with the People team.
• Enhance finance systems and workflows, including accounting, expense management, payment-platform reconciliation, documentation, and automation processes.
• Supervise cash-flow planning, treasury, banking, and investment activities.
• Provide advice to organizational leaders by converting complex financial data into straightforward recommendations.
• A minimum of 15 years of relevant professional experience, including progressively responsible roles in accounting, financial planning and analysis, and finance operations.
• Extensive experience in accounting or controllership, with accountability for U.S. GAAP financial reporting, closing processes, internal controls, revenue recognition, and complex accounting judgments.
• At least 5 years of experience in people management within a finance or accounting setting, including coaching, providing feedback, prioritization, performance support, career development, and team growth.
• Proven capability in enhancing budgeting, forecasting, management reporting, and financial data visualization, along with translating complex information into clear insights for non-finance leaders.
• Significant experience with subscription, SaaS, digital products, enterprise, or similar technology-driven revenue models.
• Background in supporting partner-led commercial arrangements such as reseller, licensing, wholesale, or revenue-sharing models, including assessing financial terms and managing related reporting, reconciliation, controls, and revenue recognition processes.
• Familiarity with merchant-of-record arrangements, payment platforms, indirect tax, and international VAT/GST requirements.
• Experience in coordinating financial duties for an internationally distributed organization across multiple jurisdictions.
• Proven track record in overseeing tax, audit, and other external finance obligations while effectively managing external advisers.
• Experience in reviewing cash management, treasury, banking, and organizational investment activities, along with developing recommendations for senior management.
• A history of enhancing financial systems, workflows, documentation, and controls.
• Strong judgment and ease in transitioning between team leadership, detailed financial analysis, practical problem-solving, and organization-wide decision support.
• Exceptional communication and cross-functional collaboration abilities, including the capacity to identify and articulate financial risks, implications, and trade-offs.
• Regular working-hour overlap with the COO, finance team, and colleagues across North American time zones; preference for Eastern or Central time zones.
