Senior Manager, Data Science

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom.

📋 Description

• Assist in establishing the working norms, technical culture, and onboarding experience for the UK data science team.

• Lead the UK team as an integrated function alongside the US-based data science organization.

• Collaborate with the Director of Data Science and the US team to prioritize stakeholder requests into a unified roadmap.

• Make decisions regarding trade-offs about what the UK team develops and the timeline for these projects.

• Evaluate technical designs and code to identify any suboptimal technical decisions.

• Resolve unclear technical challenges and make definitive technical decisions.

• Set and uphold standards for code review, documentation, model monitoring, and the rigor of experimentation.

• Collaborate with Staff-level individual contributors on establishing technical standards.

• Take ownership of the delivery of 0-to-1 builds, ensuring dependable production operations and achieving business outcomes.

• Work in partnership with Finance, Marketing, Operations, and Product leadership.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 8 years of experience in Data Science or Machine Learning Engineering.

• More than 2 years of direct management experience with data scientists or ML engineers.

• Experience in forming or shaping a brand-new team, office, or region from the ground up.

• Proven experience working with or leading teams spread across different countries or significant time zones.

• A solid history of developing and retaining data science talent, assessing performance, and managing team growth.

• Strong expertise in Python, SQL, and applied machine learning, including regression/classification, time-series analysis, and causal methods.

• Ability to prioritize roadmaps amidst competing stakeholder demands while providing clear trade-off recommendations.

• Capability to convey technical work to senior leadership and non-technical stakeholders effectively.

• Familiarity with production ML systems, cloud environments, CI/CD, and MLOps practices.

• Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in a quantitative field or equivalent experience.

• Preferred: experience with direct US/UK or transatlantic collaboration.

• Preferred: background in customer behavior and propensity modeling, applied forecasting, optimization, or marketing measurement.

• Experience in healthcare, DTC/subscription, or pharmaceuticals is a plus, though not mandatory.
