Data Scientist – Applied AI, Performance Management

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Utilize data science and AI methodologies on extensive and intricate operational datasets to pinpoint performance declines, systemic challenges, and areas for enhancement.

• Develop and execute code-centric analyses and models that facilitate automated or semi-automated identification of performance improvement opportunities.

• Leverage AI and sophisticated analytics to assess, prioritize, and enhance the effectiveness of POAMs related to contractual performance results.

• Collaborate with performance analysts, engineers, and stakeholders to convert operational challenges into data-driven solutions.

• Investigate and implement context-relevant AI techniques, balancing innovation with clarity and defensibility.

• Create reusable analytical methodologies, code, and techniques that enhance the team's overall proficiency in data science and AI.

• Articulate insights effectively and credibly to both technical and non-technical audiences, including leadership.

• Contribute to broader Navy performance initiatives (e.g., WAM) by applying methods and insights beyond SLR-focused scenarios where applicable.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree with 4 – 8 years of relevant experience or Master’s degree with 2 – 6 years of relevant experience.

• Additional years of experience may be considered in place of a degree.

• Must be a US citizen with the capability to obtain and maintain an active DoD Secret security clearance.

• Proven experience applying data science, machine learning, or AI to practical operational or performance-related challenges.

• Strong skills in problem framing: adept at understanding ambiguous issues, identifying pertinent data, and selecting suitable analytical methods.

• Proficient in Python or similar programming languages for data analysis and modeling.

• Experience handling large, messy, or diverse datasets.

• Ability to clearly and defensibly explain complex analytical findings.

• A collaborative approach and comfort working within a multidisciplinary team.

• Familiarity with applied machine learning, statistical modeling, or AI techniques utilized for pattern recognition, prioritization, or forecasting.

• Understanding of operational performance metrics, service-level agreements, or contract-driven settings.

• Experience in balancing advanced methodologies with clarity and stakeholder trust.

• Knowledge of AI enablement, platform thinking, or reusable analytics frameworks.

• Background in supporting large-scale or enterprise environments.
