Senior Manager, Data Platform Engineering – Operations

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.

📋 Description

• Oversee the engineering, operations, reliability, support, and scalability of data infrastructure and pipelines.

• Make informed decisions regarding technical stacks, implementation strategies, operational methodologies, strategic roadmaps, and team growth.

• Drive initiatives aimed at improving reliability, scalability, and efficiency; ensure adherence to SLAs; minimize costs; advocate for automation; and enhance data workflows.

• Collaborate with various departments to align with the company’s analytics and strategic business objectives.

• Lead global teams that manage the company’s data platforms and operations.

• Concentrate on platform and pipeline engineering and operations, incident management, operational excellence, system monitoring, automation, observability, and strategic enhancements.

• Oversee team development and recruitment processes.

⛳️ Requirements

• A Master’s degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.

• A minimum of 4 years of experience in any combination of data operations, data engineering, and data analyst roles.

• A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related discipline along with 6 years of progressive experience may be considered in place of a Master’s degree and 4 years of experience.

• At least 2 years of experience in leading technical teams.

• Proven experience in designing, building, and optimizing scalable data pipelines and microservice architectures.

• Demonstrated experience in managing production support processes, SLAs, on-call rotations, and incident escalations.

• Experience providing production support for data platforms and ELT/ETL pipelines.

• Proficiency in SQL, Python, and data engineering frameworks such as dbt.

• Familiarity with implementing monitoring, observability frameworks, and operational analytics solutions.

• Knowledge in cloud cost optimization, infrastructure efficiency, and performance tuning.

• Experience troubleshooting pipeline failures, job delays, and platform incidents.

• Proven track record in coordinating cross-functional incident response and leading RCA documentation and follow-up.

• Understanding of security, compliance, and access control in data operations.

• Experience in building collaborative relationships with data engineering, analytics, and business leadership teams.

• All relevant experience may be acquired concurrently.
