This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.
• Oversee Wealthsimple’s client tax function for brokerage products and regulated entities.
• Direct the strategy, operational model, and implementation of the client tax operating function, ensuring compliance with Canadian and relevant U.S. regulations.
• Take responsibility for the delivery of client tax slips, reporting for registered accounts, client statements, and associated regulatory submissions.
• Manage readiness, controls, quality assurance, amendments, and communications with regulators.
• Develop and uphold governance for QI, FATCA, CRS, non-resident withholding, and client reporting duties.
• Provide guidance to CXO, Product, Engineering, and Operations leaders regarding client tax treatment, reporting implications, data integrity, system needs, testing, automation, process design, and issue resolution.
• Lead, mentor, and nurture the Client Tax team, focusing on priorities, recruitment, onboarding, performance management, and career advancement.
• Execute AI and automation strategies to enhance operational efficiency and foster growth.
• Offer technical research, recommendations, and high-level communication regarding tax reporting challenges, regulatory changes, controls, and investment priorities.
• Collaborate with CXO on reporting procedures, communications, problem-solving, and ensuring a dependable client experience.
• Over 8 years of progressive experience in client tax reporting, financial services tax, brokerage operations, regulatory reporting, or a similar role.
• Significant experience in leading and developing teams directly.
• Extensive knowledge of Canadian brokerage tax reporting and registered account requirements.
• Familiarity with relevant CRA, Revenu Québec, and applicable U.S. reporting obligations.
• Experience with QI, FATCA, CRS, withholding tax, client statements, book-of-record data, and controls for high-volume regulated reporting.
• Proven track record in leading cross-functional programs involving Product, CXO, Engineering, Operations, Compliance, Legal, and external stakeholders.
• Strong analytical, communication, and judgment capabilities.
• CPA designation or equivalent professional qualification (preferred).
• In-Depth Tax Program or equivalent Canadian tax specialization (preferred).
• Experience with CIRO/CRM2/CRM3 reporting, fintech, digital brokerage, or high-growth financial services environments (preferred).
• Background in scaling reporting through automation, modern data tools, and operational control frameworks (preferred).
• Experience within a Big Four or national accounting firm, or a similar advisory environment (preferred).
• Must be legally eligible to work in Canada.
