Senior Manager, Back End Engineering

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Lead a team comprising mid-level, senior, and staff software engineers responsible for core policy, billing, and financial ledger platforms.

• Provide leadership in people management, technical direction, and architectural advice for scalable, secure, and high-performing back-end systems.

• Mentor and develop engineers to enhance their skills and career growth.

• Collaborate with Product Management, Program Management, engineering leaders, and various teams across the organization to align technical execution with business objectives and facilitate product delivery.

• Enhance engineering processes to boost team efficiency and effectiveness.

• Set and manage expectations with leadership and external stakeholders effectively.

• Drive team performance in relation to KPIs for throughput, product quality, security, and performance.

• Oversee sprint and roadmap planning, capacity modeling, and resource allocation efforts.

• Stay updated on industry trends and promote the adoption of engineering best practices.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree, a combination of education and relevant experience, or equivalent professional experience.

• 8–10 years of experience in software engineering, including at least 4 years in engineering management.

• Proven experience in personnel development and performance management.

• Familiarity with project management methodologies.

• Experience with sprint and roadmap planning, capacity modeling, and resource management.

• Strong fluency in technical architecture, particularly concerning back-end systems.

• Excellent enterprise partnership and stakeholder management abilities.

• Proficient written communication skills suitable for executive-level interactions.

• Bonus: Experience in sectors such as insurance, banking, or investing.

• Bonus: Knowledge of AI-assisted engineering practices, including spec-driven development, context and harness engineering, and autonomous agentic workflows.

• Bonus: Familiarity with technologies such as Go, Python, TypeScript, GraphQL, gRPC, Postgres, MongoDB, Snowflake, Kafka, Docker, Kubernetes, and AWS.
