Database Developer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Maine.

📋 Description

• Oversee and validate both scheduled and ad hoc data loads.

• Reconcile results from the source and target, investigate discrepancies, and resolve data quality issues.

• Examine production incidents, analyze application and database behavior, identify root causes, rectify defects, and confirm solutions.

• Convert business requirements, operational concerns, and user-reported issues into technical requirements and solutions.

• Review design specifications, pinpoint technical risks or limitations, and provide feedback on alternative designs and performance considerations.

• Create and execute unit, integration, system, regression, and data-validation tests.

• Develop and maintain system, program, operational, support, and user documentation.

• Engage in reviews of system designs, database designs, source code, test plans, implementation procedures, and deployment activities.

• Assist users in comprehending application functionality, warehouse data, data relationships, and reporting capabilities.

• Independently manage assigned work, prioritize tasks, adhere to deadlines, and collaborate with team members.

• Communicate risks, dependencies, technical concerns, blockers, incident status, findings, recommendations, progress, and resolutions.

• Conduct independent analyses of complex systems and data issues through development, testing, implementation, and production validation.

• Anticipate downstream impacts on applications, ETL processes, warehouse data, interfaces, and reports.

• Assess potential solutions and articulate their benefits, risks, effort, and maintainability.

• Produce reliable, maintainable, secure, and well-documented code.

• Collaborate with developers, analysts, database administrators, business users, project managers, and support personnel.

• Take ownership of assigned work and production issues until resolution.

• Clarify complex technical issues to both technical and non-technical audiences.

⛳️ Requirements

• At least 7 years of experience in application development, database programming, and production support.

• A minimum of 5 years of direct experience with Oracle databases, SQL, and PL/SQL.

• Familiarity with data warehouses and ETL processes.

• Experience with production data loads, performance analysis, defect resolution, and data quality validation.

• Knowledge of dimensional data structures, source-to-target mappings, data reconciliation, and reporting dependencies.

• Proficient in unit, integration, system, regression, and data-validation testing.

• Prior experience in local, state, or federal government is strongly preferred.

• Senior-level experience in developing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and optimizing complex database applications and data processing solutions.

• Advanced proficiency in Oracle relational database technologies.

• Extensive PL/SQL development experience, including packages, procedures, functions, triggers, and complex stored program units.

• Ability to write, analyze, and optimize intricate SQL queries.

• Experience with Oracle SQL Developer or similar Oracle development and diagnostic tools.

• Capability to troubleshoot application code and identify root causes of defects.

• SQL and PL/SQL performance analysis skills, including execution plans, indexing opportunities, and database performance bottlenecks.

• Familiarity with ETL processing, data integration, data transformation, and batch data-loading operations.

• Experience with production support and incident investigation related to SQL, PL/SQL, ETL processes, and data warehouse workloads.

• Knowledge of source code management, controlled deployments, and standard software development lifecycle practices.

• Must be currently residing in either the EST or CST time zones.

• Previous experience in federal, state, or local government is necessary.
