This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.
• Supervise Utility User Tax audit operations to guarantee accurate, efficient, and timely completion.
• Analyze and apply tax laws and regulations to complex audit scenarios.
• Act as the ultimate authority on audit findings and tax law application issues.
• Review and endorse audit conclusions, reports, and recommendations.
• Create, execute, and oversee the annual audit budget.
• Track expenses, financial performance, KPIs, workflow, staffing, and productivity.
• Enhance efficiency and resource allocation.
• Recruit, train, mentor, and assess audit personnel.
• Provide recommendations and make decisions regarding hiring, promotions, and terminations.
• Coordinate legal representation efforts for audits that are contested in court.
• Collaborate with legal counsel throughout formal proceedings.
• Maintain client relationships through effective communication, site visits, and professional consultation.
• Ensure adherence to policies, procedures, and relevant laws.
• Identify and implement improvements in processes.
• Offer strategic direction and leadership for departmental and organizational goals.
• Execute additional duties as assigned.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting.
• 5-12 years of relevant experience in utility user tax.
• In-depth understanding of state and local tax laws, regulations, statutes, and procedures.
• Advanced knowledge and experience in corporate accounting, direct and indirect transactional taxes, and other business accounting functions.
• Capability to analyze tax-sensitive general ledger accounts.
• Intermediate to advanced tax research skills.
• Strong understanding of accounting principles and excellent analytical abilities.
• Ability to organize, plan, and lead effectively.
• Professional, customer service-oriented, tactful, reliable, and adaptable.
• Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with personnel at all levels within the Company.
• Proficient working knowledge of accounting systems and Microsoft Office.
• Must be able to remain in a stationary position for the majority of the day.
• Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity equipment.
• Occasional movement within the office is required.
• Travel as needed.
